Summary
As Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the architecture, planning, implementation, and maintenance of database systems including strategic database design, planning, and execution, with emphasis on Azure technologies, working with development teams to design and implement complex database layouts and strategies. In this role you will also be responsible for performance monitoring and tuning. You will also be expected to apply new technologies and techniques to improve production systems, capacity planning, data integrity, backup and recovery solutions, and database security.
To be effective you will be expected to work closely with internal teams and serve as the primary source for strategic database architecture, design, planning and implementation; regularly working with development to improve production systems, tune workloads, and implement new database layouts and strategies.
As a top candidate you will possess a well-rounded and highly technical background with emphasis on scalable design and performance in the cloud and will be self-motivated and able to handle complex tasks independently.
Scheduled shift will cover US business hours for the foreseeable future. When assigned to the US shift, you will work remotely but this is subject to change to hybrid if shift needs change.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
SDLC and Production Database Maintenance
Software Development Life Cycle: implementation, deployment, and maintenance, including participation in monthly release rotation
Database Security
Database Change Management: Review scripts and perform deployments to Development, QC and Production Environments
Create databases (with appropriate resources when applicable) and ensure proper backup retention
Capacity Planning and monitoring
Data modeling, logical and physical database design
Alert Response: Determine root cause and resolution
Database Tuning
Write performant T-SQL and tune existing T-SQL
Review data models to ensure optimal database performance including appropriate indexing
Database performance tuning for optimal resource usage
Identify performance bottlenecks and recommend corrective action
Assess real-time performance issues and determine root cause and resolution
Project Work as Needed
- Work on various projects as directed in partnership with the development and other teams

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Math or technical field or equivalent combined work experience
4+ years working with relational database systems
3+ years Database Design / Data Modeling
3+ years Microsoft SQL Server 2019 and newer
2+ years Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure SQL Database
2+ years working in a high demand 24x7 web environment including participation in a production support oncall rotation
3+ years writing, optimizing, and supporting T-SQL
2+ years experience with performance monitoring and tuning tools including SQL Server Query Store and Extended Events
Understanding of T-SQL execution plans
Proven success identifying and proposing solutions to performance problems
Experience managing database security using least-privilege methodology
Experience automating tasks with SQL Agent and Azure Automation PowerShell Runbooks
Experience creating and enforcing data and database coding standards
Experience creating technical documentation
Ability to work across functional groups, development, operations, configuration management, end users, and program managers on multiple projects
Additional Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
MySQL experience preferred
Experience working with data security preferred
Experience with Change Data Capture or Change Tracking a plus
