MEP Manager – Commercial Building Projects
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced MEP Engineer to lead the planning, design coordination, and execution of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for commercial building projects. This role serves as the technical authority for MEP systems integration, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The MEP Engineer will report directly to the Senior Project Manager or Director of Engineering and will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, structural engineers, contractors, and clients to deliver exceptional building performance.
This position may involve oversight of junior engineers and coordination personnel, requiring both technical expertise and leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
Lead MEP design coordination from concept through construction completion for commercial building projects ranging from office buildings to mixed-use developments
Develop comprehensive project schedules, critical path analyses, and milestone tracking for MEP work packages
Manage project budgets including cost estimation, value engineering proposals, and expenditure tracking to maintain financial targets
Conduct regular site inspections to verify installation quality, compliance with design specifications, and adherence to safety protocols
Technical Coordination & Design Oversight
Review and coordinate MEP design documents, ensuring integration between mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Facilitate BIM coordination sessions to identify and resolve conflicts between MEP systems and architectural/structural elements
Evaluate mechanical system selections including HVAC equipment, controls, and distribution systems for optimal performance and efficiency
Oversee electrical load calculations, power distribution design, lighting systems, and emergency power provisions
Review plumbing layouts, domestic water systems, sanitary and storm drainage, and fire protection system designs
Stakeholder Management
Serve as primary MEP technical liaison with clients, addressing concerns and providing regular project updates
Manage relationships with MEP contractors, subcontractors, and vendors throughout design and construction phases
Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and other consultants to ensure seamless design integration
Facilitate submittal review processes, RFI responses, and change order evaluations
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Ensure all MEP systems comply with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and jurisdictional requirements
Implement quality control procedures including testing, commissioning oversight, and performance verification
Manage risk identification and mitigation strategies for MEP-related project challenges
Prepare comprehensive documentation including progress reports, technical memoranda, and lessons learned summaries
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from a reputed institution.
10-12 years of progressive experience in MEP project management within commercial building construction
Demonstrated track record of successfully delivering MEP systems for projects valued at $10M+
Certifications & Licenses
LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) preferred
Technical Proficiency
Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and BIM 360 for design review and coordination
Proficiency with Navisworks or similar clash detection software
Experience with MS Project or equivalent scheduling tools
Familiarity with electrical load calculation software and hydraulic analysis tools
Preferred Qualifications
ASHRAE, NFPA, or IEEE membership demonstrating commitment to professional development
Specialized experience in specific building types: Class A office buildings, hospitality, healthcare facilities, or retail developments
Experience with commissioning processes and LEED certification projects
Previous mentorship or supervision of junior engineering staff
