Job Description – Quality Engineer (Heavy Fabrication)

Position: Quality Engineer
Department: Quality Assurance / Quality Control
Location: Lalru, Punjab
Company: JCBL Group
Industry: Heavy Fabrication / Automotive / Engineering Manufacturing
Experience: 3–8 Years
Qualification: Diploma / B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Purpose

To ensure product quality and process compliance in heavy fabrication operations through inspection, quality assurance activities, defect prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role is responsible for maintaining quality standards for fabricated structures, welded assemblies, and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Control

Conduct stage-wise and final inspection of fabricated and welded components.
Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
Monitor fabrication processes to ensure adherence to quality standards.
Perform dimensional inspections using measuring instruments and gauges.
Verify fit-up, welding, fabrication, and assembly quality before dispatch.

Welding & Fabrication Quality

Inspect welding activities as per approved WPS and quality standards.
Monitor weld quality, visual inspection, and weld defect analysis.
Coordinate NDT activities such as UT, RT, MT, and PT wherever applicable.
Ensure compliance with welding procedures and fabrication codes.

Documentation & Quality Systems

Prepare and maintain quality records, inspection reports, NCRs, CAPA reports, and quality documentation.
Support implementation and maintenance of ISO 9001 and customer quality requirements.
Conduct process audits and internal quality audits.
Maintain calibration records of measuring instruments.

Customer & Supplier Quality

Handle customer inspections and quality audits.
Investigate customer complaints and implement corrective actions.
Coordinate with suppliers for quality improvement and incoming material inspections.
Ensure closure of customer observations and non-conformities.

Continuous Improvement

Analyze quality data and identify root causes of defects.
Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Support Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Work closely with Production, Design, and Projects teams to improve product quality.

Required Skills

Strong knowledge of heavy fabrication and welding processes.
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and GD&T.
Knowledge of welding standards, inspection techniques, and quality tools.
Experience with measuring instruments such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Height Gauge, and Welding Gauges.
Understanding of NDT methods and quality management systems.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
