We are looking for a highly capable Tools and Automation Engineer-preferably with prior map-building experience-to deliver sophisticated tooling solutions and provide dedicated support to Apple Maps Production Operations. In this highly impactful role, you will act as the critical bridge between Operations and Engineering. You will manage a diverse contractor team of engineers and testers, working closely with Engineering, Operations Managers, Support Functions, and end-users to build, support, and enhance the tooling and automation used in map-making. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve defining technical requirements, providing strategic input during development, executing end-to-end testing with real-world use cases, and seamlessly deploying solutions to Production. You will proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and implement automation solutions in collaboration with engineering teams, including your own. This role also offers abundant opportunities to put your GIS and tooling expertise to the test, allowing you to solve real-world problems and continuously enhance your skills. Preferred Qualifications
Strong understanding of mapping, navigation, or other geospatial technologies is a significant plus.
Hands-on experience with GIS tools such as QGIS, FME, or similar platforms.
Experience managing and mentoring mid-sized contractor teams with diverse technical specialties.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of troubleshooting and optimizing complex systems.
Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to evaluate and champion emerging technologies-particularly generative AI and machine learning tools.
Ability to operate effectively and autonomously in a fast-paced Production Operations environment.
A strong sense of ownership and an unwavering commitment to excellence in all aspects of your work.
Any prior experience in the field of MLOps will be highly preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
6 to 9 years of software development experience with strong, hands-on programming skills in Python, Scala, and Java, demonstrating the ability to build robust, scalable, and maintainable codebases.
Proven ability to drive technical strategy around test automation architecture, frameworks, and industry best practices.
Extensive experience testing client applications, APIs, and distributed backend services.
Expertise in designing, building, and maintaining automated test frameworks, specifically tailored for display rendering components.
