At 66degrees, we believe in thriving through challenges and winning together. These values not only guide us in achieving our goals as a company but also for our people. We are dedicated to creating a significant impact for our employees by fostering a culture that sparks innovation and supports professional and personal growth along the way.
We are looking for a Cloud Workspace Engineer to lead the initial architecture, design, and implementation of our next-generation digital workspace platform. This role bridges the gap between corporate productivity and developer velocity. You will be responsible for building out a net-new environment from the ground up: streaming business-critical applications to users via Cameyo by Google, while simultaneously provisioning secure, high-performance cloud development environments via Google Cloud Workstations.
This isn't a role for maintaining a legacy VDI environment. We need an engineer who understands the practical shift toward browser-based, clientless app delivery. You will take full ownership of the initial architecture and map out a clean migration path that is secure from day one.
Duration: 6 Months, Contract (potential to extend or convert)
Start Date: ASAP , Working hours: Up to 40 Hours per week
- Initial Platform Engineering: Architect and deploy the initial Cameyo by Google infrastructure to deliver Windows applications as secure web apps, optimizing for browser-based productivity, Progressive Web App (PWA) integration, and seamless SSO.
- Workstation Environment Design: Provision, configure, and stand up Google Cloud Workstations. Work closely with software engineering teams to define baseline images, package containerized IDEs, and establish secure dev environments.
- Infrastructure Strategy & ROI: Design the underlying Google Cloud Platform (GCP) compute architecture to balance performance with cost-efficiency—establishing auto-scaling policies, custom container lifecycles, and "power-on-demand" features from day one.
- Security & Zero Trust Foundation: Implement Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) principles for remote access. Establish endpoint security baselines, session isolation, and data loss prevention (DLP) policies utilizing tools like Chrome Enterprise Premium.
- Application Migration & Packaging: Carry out complex application delivery, migrating legacy software into modern browser environments using Cameyo's "Fully Hosted" or "Self-Hosted" models.
- Migration Leadership: Act as the technical lead for the organization's migration away from legacy VDI (Citrix/VMware) to modern, lightweight cloud alternatives.
Strong understanding of Cameyo by Google (VAD architecture) and Google Cloud Workstations.
Proficiency in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and the Google Workspace Admin Console.
Strong understanding of Docker / Container architecture (crucial for building Cloud Workstation images).
Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and RDS CAL / Session Host licensing management.
Experience with Google Identity / Workspace, Okta, or Microsoft Entra ID, alongside Zero Trust principles (ZTNA).
Proficiency in Terraform for cloud provisioning and PowerShell, Python, or Bash for workspace automation.
- Experience: 5+ years in IT infrastructure, with at least 2 years focused specifically on Cloud VDI, Virtual App Delivery, or Cloud Workspaces.
- The "Cloud-First" Mindset: Experience moving organizations away from heavy VPNs and toward browser-based, clientless access.
- Automation Focus: Ability to use PowerShell, Python, or Terraform to automate workspace provisioning.
- Project Delivery: Experience managing enterprise rollouts, working alongside cross-functional teams like security and networking to deliver core infrastructure.
