Mechanical Design Engineer – Aluminum, Architectural, Door Hardware & Glass Industry

Job Description

Position Summary:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing aluminum and glass systems, preparing detailed engineering drawings, developing product designs, and supporting manufacturing and installation processes. The role requires expertise in CAD software, material selection, structural calculations, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design aluminum doors, windows, curtain walls, skylights, partitions, and glazing systems.
Develop mechanical designs for architectural hardware including hinges, locks, handles, sliding systems, and accessories.
Prepare 2D and 3D models using CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo.
Generate manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, fabrication details, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
Design aluminum extrusions and coordinate with extrusion die manufacturers.
Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and product optimization.
Review customer specifications, architectural drawings, and project requirements.
Coordinate with architects, consultants, production, procurement, and installation teams.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and building codes.
Support prototype development, testing, and product validation.
Resolve design-related issues during manufacturing and site installation.
Optimize products for cost, manufacturability, and performance.
Prepare technical documentation, design reports, and engineering change requests (ECR/ECO).

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
2–8+ years of experience in aluminum systems, architectural hardware, or glass façade industries.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and at least one 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or CATIA).
Knowledge of aluminum extrusion design and fabrication.
Understanding of sheet metal design, machining, and manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with glass systems, curtain walls, doors, windows, and architectural hardware.
Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and engineering drawings.
Experience with ERP systems and BOM management is an advantage.
