Full job description

Role Description:

JD for Battery Management System (BMS) Architect

Responsibilities:

Architectural Design & Software Development:

Lead the end-to-end design, development, and scaling of robust BMS software architectures for 2W, 3W, and high-voltage EV applications.

Define software development best practices, MISRA-C/C++ coding standards, and rigorous validation strategies.

Develop and optimize state-space models, Equivalent Circuit Models (ECM), and other simulation models for BMS functionalities.

Design architectures that support modern EV features, including Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware updates and cloud-based battery diagnostics.

Advanced Algorithm Engineering:

Design, implement, and validate complex battery state estimation algorithms, including State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), State of Power (SoP), and State of Energy (SoE) using techniques like Extended/Unscented Kalman Filters (EKF/UKF).

Develop highly efficient logic for thermal management, active/passive cell balancing, and advanced fault detection.

Battery Technology & Validation:

Leverage deep knowledge of cell chemistries (LFP, NMC, LTO) to optimize BMS performance, safety, and lifespan.

Define comprehensive battery testing protocols, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing.

Analyse real-world and test-bench data to tune BMS algorithms and mitigate degradation and failure modes.

Technical Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Provide expert mentorship and technical guidance to the BMS software development team.

Act as the primary technical authority for resolving complex design roadblocks.

Collaborate seamlessly with hardware, systems engineering, and validation teams to ensure flawless BMS integration.

Code Optimization & Advanced Debugging: Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and bugs. Perform advanced code debugging and root-cause analysis to ensure highly reliable internal software ecosystems.

System Integration: Integrate standalone tools with existing enterprise software, CI/CD pipelines, and automotive hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing environments.

Standard Compliance: Ensure all internal software solutions and automated tools adhere to strict automotive industry standards (e.g., ISO 26262, ASPICE, or MISRA guidelines where applicable).

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with vehicle systems engineers, QA teams, and embedded software developers to gather requirements and translate them into efficient software solutions.

Documentation & Best Practices: Maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for all developed tools. Champion clean code principles, code reviews, and software development best practices within the team.

Qualification:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field.

Experience: 10+ years of hands-on experience in architecting and developing battery management systems for automotive or industrial applications.

Software & Modelling: Demonstrated mastery of embedded C/C++, Python, and Model-Based Design (MBD) tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.

Functional Safety: Strong working knowledge of automotive safety standards, particularly ISO 26262 (ASIL B to ASIL D) compliance for BMS.

Algorithms: Extensive, proven experience in developing and tuning battery estimation algorithms (SoC, SoH, SoP) and control logic.

Protocols: Deep familiarity with automotive and hardware communication protocols, including CAN, LIN, SPI, and I2C

Testing: Hands-on experience with HIL/SIL testing environments and battery cycle data analysis.

Leadership: Excellent problem-solving capabilities with a track record of successfully mentoring technical teams.

Good to Have :

Direct experience developing BMS specifically for the 2-wheeler and 3-wheeler EV markets.

Familiarity with AUTOSAR architecture.

Knowledge of emerging battery technologies (e.g., solid-state batteries, sodium-ion).
