As a Senior Manager/Specialist leader at Deloitte Consulting, you will play the role of Mainframe Modernization expert who leads technical delivery for complex, enterprise-wide modernization of legacy systems. You will lead and guide multidisciplinary, global teams and serve as a senior mentor to managers and junior staff. You will partner closely with clients and internal stakeholders to align solution strategies with business goals, contribute to sales and proposal development, and ensure rigorous management of end-to-end project delivery, including scoping, estimation, and executive reporting for successful project outcomes.
Work you'll do
As a Senior Manager/AVP on the Engineering as a Service team, you will be responsible for leading large-scale mainframe modernization programs and guiding engineering teams through complex transformation initiatives.
- Lead end-to-end delivery of mainframe modernization programs, from assessment and solution design through migration, cutover, and stabilization.
- Define target-state architecture, integration patterns, resiliency requirements, and modernization roadmaps aligned to business and technology objectives.
- Provide technical leadership across mainframe and distributed engineering teams working with COBOL, CICS, IMS, Db2, JCL, VSAM, Java, Python, APIs, and cloud platforms.
- Oversee program governance across scope, estimates, budgets, RAID management, quality, release planning, and executive stakeholder reporting.
- Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, solutioning, and client discussions related to mainframe modernization and AI-enabled engineering transformation.

Qualifications
Required:
- 18+ years of software engineering experience, including delivery leadership for large-scale enterprise programs.
- Experience leading mainframe modernization programs using replatform, refactor, replace, or strangler approaches from assessment through cutover and stabilization.
- Hands-on experience with COBOL and mainframe technologies including CICS, IMS, Db2, JCL, and VSAM.
- Hands-on experience with Java, Python, microservices, application programming interfaces, continuous integration/continuous deployment, and test automation.
- Experience leading multi-team, multi-vendor engineering engagements with responsibility for scope, plans, RAID logs, budgets, and executive stakeholder reporting.
- Experience implementing Generative Artificial Intelligence-assisted software development lifecycle use cases, including code modernization, test generation, documentation, or defect triage, with measurable outcomes and governance.
- Experience with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure; experience defining target-state architecture, integration patterns, data and messaging design, resiliency, and non-functional requirements; and at least one certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or TOGAF.
Preferred:
- Experience publishing, presenting, or applying research-led approaches in mainframe modernization, Generative Artificial Intelligence, or agentic Artificial Intelligence.
- Experience supporting technology solutions for a defined industry sector or sub-sector.
- Experience mentoring senior engineering teams and driving technical delivery across large-scale programs.
- Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, Master of Computer Applications, Master of Science in Computer Science, Master of Technology, Ph.D, or equivalent degree from an accredited university.
