Business Segment Overview

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the administration, performance, availability, security, and automation of StoneX's database platforms across on-premises and cloud environments. The role focuses on ensuring highly available, secure, and performant database services while leveraging automation, AI-driven tools, and modern operational practices to improve efficiency and reliability.
The DBA will support Microsoft SQL Server environments while developing expertise across other database technologies including PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and cloud-native database services.
Responsibilities:

Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server environments across production and non-production systems.

Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and provide support for critical incidents.

Ensure database availability, stability, and performance in line with business SLAs.

Perform database installations, upgrades, patching, and migrations.
-
Manage and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Always On Availability Groups and Failover Clustering.

Monitor database performance using enterprise monitoring tools.
-
Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
-
Conduct database tuning activities including query optimization, indexing strategies, and configuration improvements.

Develop and maintain health checks, monitoring standards, and performance baselines.

Perform root cause analysis for database incidents and provide recommendations for long-term improvements.

Manage backup and recovery solutions using Cohesity, Delphix, Azure-native tooling, and SQL Server technologies.

Ensure recovery procedures align with defined RPO and RTO requirements.

Regularly test backup and disaster recovery processes.
-
Support database workloads hosted in Microsoft Azure.
-
Manage Azure SQL services and related cloud database technologies.
-
Assist with cloud migrations, modernization initiatives, and cost optimization efforts.

Utilize AI and automation capabilities to improve cloud operations and monitoring.

Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, Python, T-SQL, and APIs.

Implement Infrastructure as Code and automation frameworks where appropriate.

Leverage AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, GPTs, and monitoring analytics to accelerate troubleshooting and operational efficiency.

Build automated monitoring, alerting, remediation, and reporting solutions.

Promote responsible AI usage while maintaining accountability for technical decisions.

Ensure database platforms comply with security standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

Support audit, vulnerability remediation, and security improvement initiatives.

Identify operational risks and implement appropriate controls.

Contribute to database standards, documentation, and best practices.

Work closely with application teams, infrastructure teams, architects, and business stakeholders.

Support Agile delivery processes and project initiatives.
-
Contribute to knowledge sharing, documentation, and mentoring activities.

Continuously evaluate emerging database technologies and operational improvements.
Qualifications:

2–5 years of Database Administration experience.
-
Strong Microsoft SQL Server administration skills (SQL Server 2016+).

Experience with:

Performance tuning and optimization.

Backup and recovery strategies.

Always On Availability Groups and clustering technologies.

T-SQL development and troubleshooting.

Database monitoring and health checks.

Azure database services and cloud platforms.

Experience supporting business-critical systems in a 24x7 environment.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MariaDB, or other open-source databases.

Scripting and automation experience using PowerShell, Python, or similar languages.

Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD tooling such as GitHub, Terraform, Liquibase.

Experience with Delphix, Cohesity, Redgate, SolarWinds, or similar enterprise tools.

Knowledge of financial services environments and regulatory requirements.
