About the Role
We are a Miscellaneous focus steel detailing firm seeking a skilled Tekla Structures Customization Specialist to support and enhance our workflows across all client projects. This is not a modeling or detailing role — we are looking for someone who lives in the technical backend of Tekla: APIs, custom components, templates, reports, and firm-wide environment management.
Responsibilities:
Tekla Open API Development
∙ Develop and maintain custom extensions, plugins, and macros using the Tekla Open API, implemented using Microsoft .NET technology, to automate routine tasks, create automation tools for frequently needed objects, and transfer information between Tekla Structures and other software
∙ Build tools that reduce repetitive detailer workflows and improve project throughput
∙ Stay current with API updates — including the Tekla Developer Assistant, which helps write Tekla Structures Open API code using a generative language model
Custom Components
∙ Define and build parametric custom connections, seams, details, and parts that automatically adjust to changes in the model, especially for complex model objects that need to be copied across multiple projects
∙ Maintain and update the Applications & Components catalog for firm-wide and project-specific use
Templates & Reports
∙ Build, customize, and maintain drawing templates, report templates, and title block layouts
∙ Ensure templates meet client-specific requirements and firm standards
∙ Manage template versioning across multiple client environments
Firm Folder & Environment Management
∙ Own and maintain the firm’s Tekla environment folder structure across all active client projects
∙ Manage profile catalogs, material catalogs, bolt assemblies, and custom settings
∙ Deploy and update environment files consistently across the team
∙ Onboard new projects with correctly configured folder setups from day one
Required Skills & Experience
∙ 3+ years working hands-on in Tekla Structures in a detailing or BIM environment
∙ Demonstrated experience developing with the Tekla Open API (.NET / C#)
∙ Proven ability to build and edit custom components (parametric connections, details, parts)
∙ Experience customizing drawing templates, report templates, and XSR/XSL-based reports
∙ Strong understanding of Tekla environment folder architecture (firm folder, project folder, model folder hierarchy)
∙ Ability to manage and deploy configurations across multiple simultaneous client projects
Preferred / Bonus Skills
∙ Familiarity with Tekla Warehouse for publishing and managing extensions
∙ Experience with Trimble Connect integration
∙ Knowledge of steel fabrication workflows and shop drawing standards (AISC, AWS)
∙ Scripting experience (Python, PowerShell) for file and folder automation
∙ Experience working within a multi-client detailing firm environment
You Are
∙ Detail-oriented and systematic — your folder structures are clean, your components are documented
∙ Comfortable owning infrastructure that others depend on
∙ Able to communicate clearly with detailers and project managers who aren’t API developers
∙ Proactive in identifying workflow inefficiencies and building solutions
