We are seeking a highly seasoned, authoritative IBM i Systems Engineer to own the architecture, security, performance, and high availability (HA) of our enterprise Power Systems environment.
As a key technical leader, you will be responsible for complex migrations, strategic planning, and ensuring 99.999% uptime for critical business applications. This role requires an independent problem-solver who takes full ownership of projects from design through execution.
Candidate Must Have a minimum of 12 years of prior experience creating and delivering solutions tied to business growth, organizational development and systems optimization. Skilled problem identifier and troubleshooter comfortable managing systems, projects and teams in a range of IT environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Architecture & Strategy: Design, implement, and maintain complex LPAR configurations, virtualization (PowerVM), and enterprise storage strategies.
- High Availability (HA/DR): Design and manage HA/DR solutions (ie, ( BCS, [PowerHA, Mimix, QuickEDD) to meet stringent RPO/RTO goals.
- Security & Compliance: Administer advanced IBM i security configurations, including exit point management, object-level auditing, and compliance controls (SOX/HIPAA).
- Systems Management: Lead OS/400 upgrades, PTF management, and firmware updates on IBM Power8/Power9/Power10 hardware using HMC.
- Performance Optimization: Conduct in-depth performance analysis using tools like [IBM Performance Tools, iDoctor], resolving complex contention and bottlenecks.
- Escalation Support: Act as the highest-level technical escalation point for complex system failures.
- Automation: Utilize CL programming, RPGLE, and SQL to automate manual operational tasks and integrate with modern tooling.
- Project Leadership: Lead modernization projects, including Data Center migrations, cloud integration (AWS/Azure), and SQL modernization.
Required Skills and Abilities
IBM HARDWARE/SOFTWARE
- Design, configure, and operationally support hardware associated with IBM iSeries infrastructure. From POWER8 to POWER10 hardware, storage, and all ancillary devices/hardware.
- Design, plan, and implement system security and compliance associated with SOX/PCI requirements.
- Perform routine software maintenance that includes, but not limited to, OS level upgrades, IBM PTF’s GROUP/CUM, and additional tasks associated to maintaining healthy system operations.
· Implementation, support, and operations of IBM BRMS (Backup, Recovery, and Media Services) as it relates to system backups, restores, and archiving. ·
Plan, design, and implement iSeries partitions using single system and hardware resources to load balance performance, resources, and storage.
ARCHITECTURE & STRATEGY:
- Design, implement, and maintain complex LPAR configurations, virtualization (PowerVM), and enterprise storage strategies. HIGH AVAILABILITY / DISASTER RECOVERY
- Expertise knowledge in High Availability solutions offered for IBM iSeries environments. This includes Mimix, QuickEDD, and OMS/ODS.
- Design disaster recovery procedures, policies, and practices using best practices integrating high availability solutions.
HIGH AVAILABILITY (HA/DR):
- Design and manage HA/DR solutions (ie, ( BCS, [PowerHA, Mimix, QuickEDD) to meet stringent RPO/RTO goals. APPLICATION / 3RD PARTY VENDORS
- Established business relationships with leading IBM Business Partners, direct IBM contacts, and iSeries vendors providing IBM solutions.
- Extensive knowledge in absMessage, Fortra, ACOM, DBU, Hawkeye, Inform Decisions, iSecurity (Audit, Firewall, Capture, Power Exchange (Data Warehouse), TAA Tools, ControlM, and many other 3rd party applications.
- Exceptional knowledge of SDA, PDM, and other programming tools for application building and screen design.
