Research Summary of the Faculty

Professor: Vandith Pamuru

Prof. Vandith Pamuru is a faculty member in the Information Systems area at ISB. His research examines digital platforms, online advertising, social networks, and the societal impact of technology. This project focuses on understanding how online advertisements work using large-scale data obtained from one of the world’s largest social network platforms.

Roles and Responsibilities

You will:

Assist in ongoing research related to online advertisements, social networks, and digital platforms.
Extract data through APIs and manage large-scale datasets.
Perform data preprocessing, cleaning, validation, and database management.
Analyze large, distributed datasets (tens of terabytes) in cloud environments.
Apply data science, machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and social network analysis techniques.
Conduct exploratory data analysis, statistical analysis, visualization, and reporting.
Review academic literature, summarize findings, and contribute to research documentation.
Collaborate with faculty on research projects and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications

Strong academic background in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Data Science, or related disciplines.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a reputed institution with strong academic performance.
Prior research or industry experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills

Strong programming skills in Python (preferred) and/or R.
Experience working with APIs and data extraction pipelines.
Good understanding of cloud computing environments and distributed systems.
Experience handling large-scale datasets and big-data workflows.
Strong mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills.
Knowledge of machine learning techniques and data science workflows.
Exposure to natural language processing and social network analysis is desirable.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
High attention to detail, ability to multitask, and commitment to quality work.
Ability to work diligently on repetitive but critical project tasks.
Strong motivation to pursue research and/or a future PhD.
