The Quality Manager/Engineer is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining world?class quality systems for EV traction motors—covering stator, rotor, and motor assembly processes. The role ensures IATF 16949 compliance, drives APQP/PPAP, leads problem solving and customer quality, manages SQE, and ensures all products meet safety, reliability, and performance standards. You will champion a culture of zero?defect, customer obsession, and continuous improvement, while guiding cross?functional teams to deliver high first?pass yields, low PPM, robust validation, and stable production.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Systems, Compliance & Audits
- Ensure full compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and customer?specific requirements.
- Lead internal and external audits (IATF, customer, regulatory) and close findings with sustainable actions.
- Maintain quality manuals, SOPs, Control Plans, PFMEA, inspection standards, traceability, and document control.
NPI / APQP / PPAP Ownership
Lead APQP from concept DV PV PPAP
- SOP.
- Approve design validation (DV) and production validation (PV) plans including durability, thermal, dielectric, vibration/NVH, and EOL performance.
- Oversee PPAP submission: PSW, DFMEA/PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, Run@Rate, and capability (Cp/Cpk).
- Validate process readiness before SOP (tools, gages, measurement systems, automation, inspection plans).
In?Process Quality & Plant Performance
- Own FPY, PPM, scrap, rework, and OEE?quality metrics for stator, rotor, and final assembly lines.
- Ensure robust Control Plan deployment, gage calibration, SPC on CTQs (hairpin welds, insulation integrity, press fits, magnet placement).
- Monitor and improve EOL test signatures: electrical performance, torque ripple, partial discharge, hipot, run?in vibration/noise.
- Lead Layered Process Audits (LPA), gemba walks, and containment for non?conformance issues.
Supplier Quality Management (SQE)
- Manage supplier quality for magnets, laminations, copper, machined parts, castings, adhesives/resins, sensors, and electronics.
- Conduct supplier audits (VDA 6.3 preferred), approve PPAPs, ensure incoming quality checks, and track supplier PPM/OTD.
- Drive supplier corrective actions (8D), dual?sourcing risk plans, and cost?of?poor?quality reduction.
Customer Quality & Issue Resolution
- Act as the primary interface for OEM/Tier?1 customers for all quality matters.
- Lead customer complaint resolution with 8D, root cause analysis, and permanent corrective actions.
- Manage warranty data, reliability growth, field returns (tear?down analysis), and customer scorecards.
- Own customer audits, QBRs, and new program readiness reviews.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Lead structured problem-solving (8D, A3, 5?Why, Fishbone) for line issues and customer complaints.
- Support Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen projects focused on yield, scrap, equipment uptime, and process capability.
- Enable digital quality dashboards, data analytics (FPY, PPM, Cp/Cpk, warranty), and predictive insights.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead a team of Quality Engineers, Technicians, Inspectors, and SQE.
- Define skill matrices, training needs, certification levels, and audit competencies.
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Science Engineering.
- 2-10 years of experience in electric motor design/manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position within a Tier-1 supplier/OEM.
- Hands-on experience with motor manufacturing processes: lamination stamping/stacking, hairpin/conventional winding, insulation systems, laser welding etc.
- Familiarity with IATF 16949/ISO 9001 systems and production part approval
- Strong data analysis experience (Minitab, Power BI, SPC tools)
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and decision making under ambiguity
