About the Opportunity
The Infrastructure Systems Engineering team is building next generation private cloud infrastructure as part of a strategic initiative to bring critical workloads in-house and support future growth.
The environment supports a highly scaled distributed database platform that executes over 7 million tests per month and processes petabytes of storage daily. As the platform continues to grow, we are seeking engineers who can design, build, optimize, and troubleshoot storage systems at scale.
As a Sr. Systems Engineer – Storage Systems, you will work on the design, implementation, performance optimization, and reliability of large-scale distributed storage infrastructure. This role focuses on low-level systems engineering, storage architecture, distributed systems, Linux internals, and performance engineering.
You will collaborate with a small team of highly skilled engineers who value first-principles thinking, technical curiosity, data-driven decision making, and ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Storage Systems Engineering
- Design and develop distributed storage infrastructure and services.
- Build scalable, fault-tolerant storage architectures capable of supporting high-performance database workloads.
- Develop and optimize storage components responsible for data placement, replication, recovery, and consistency.
- Improve storage performance, scalability, and operational efficiency across large-scale environments.
- Design and implement solutions for high availability, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery.
Performance Engineering
- Analyze and optimize storage latency, throughput, and resource utilization.
- Identify bottlenecks across storage, memory, CPU, and networking subsystems.
- Perform low-level profiling and performance tuning of storage-intensive workloads.
- Drive benchmarking and performance validation efforts.
Linux & Systems Development
- Develop systems software in Linux environments.
- Work with Linux kernel interfaces, filesystems, memory management, and I/O subsystems.
- Troubleshoot complex performance and reliability issues at the operating system level.
- Contribute to system-level tooling and observability capabilities.
Distributed Systems
- Design and troubleshoot distributed systems operating at scale.
- Investigate consistency, replication, and failure-recovery challenges.
- Participate in architecture reviews and technical design discussions.
- Own systems throughout the entire lifecycle from design through production support.
