The Senior Power BI / Fabric Developer is a senior technical contributor responsible for stabilizing, enhancing, and expanding the organization’s business intelligence ecosystem across Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, SQL, and semantic modeling. The role rapidly evaluates existing reports, models, SQL logic, and Fabric artifacts to identify risks and restore trust, while owning end‑to‑end resolution of production issues such as refresh failures, data mismatches, KPI logic errors, and security gaps. This developer designs and improves executive‑ready dashboards, authors advanced DAX, and centralizes reusable business logic in scalable semantic models that support finance, operations, and leadership decision‑making.
Working across the full Microsoft Fabric stack—including Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines, Notebooks, and OneLake—the developer builds and troubleshoots BI solutions with strong governance, RLS, workspace strategy, and disciplined Dev/UAT/Prod release practices. The role balances urgent support with backlog and new development, maintains documentation and runbooks, and continuously improves reliability, performance, and self‑service readiness. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Power BI, Fabric, SQL, and dimensional modeling, paired with strong communication skills and the ability to translate ambiguous business needs into scalable, production‑ready solutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess and prioritize: Rapidly evaluate Power BI reports, semantic models, Fabric artifacts, SQL logic, Power BI Service behavior, and upstream data flows to identify risk, broken logic, trust gaps, and stabilization priorities.
- Stabilize production: Own end‑to‑end resolution of production issues—refresh failures, data mismatches, reconciliation breaks, KPI errors, relationship problems, and security gaps—until fully remediated.
- Deliver reporting: Design, build, and enhance Power BI reports and dashboards that support finance, operations, and leadership decision‑making.
- Centralize business logic: Author production‑grade DAX and centralize reusable measures and calculations in scalable semantic models.
- Model and optimize: Design, maintain, and tune fact/dimension models with clear grain, correct relationships, performant measures, and self‑service readiness.
- Advanced SQL for BI: Write complex SQL (joins, CTEs, window functions, aggregations, views) to support development, validation, reconciliation, and triage.
- Operate across Fabric: Build and troubleshoot end‑to‑end solutions in Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines, Notebooks, OneLake, semantic models).
- Governance and release discipline: Implement RLS, workspace/app design, deployment pipelines (Dev/UAT/PRD), release processes, and documentation standards.
- Document and hand off: Produce current‑state and future‑state documentation, business logic, assumptions, dependencies, runbooks, and handoff‑ready guidance to reduce recurring defects.
- Balance delivery priorities: Manage competing demands across urgent support, backlog, and new development while maintaining SLAs, quality, and release cadence.
- Drive performance improvements: Tune semantic models, reports, SQL, and refresh processes to improve reliability, usability, and scalability.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: 5+ years in BI, analytics, or reporting development with progressive responsibility.
- Communication: Strong ability to communicate in English.
- Power BI and Fabric expertise: Hands‑on experience building and supporting enterprise Power BI solutions and Microsoft Fabric components (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines, Notebooks, OneLake).
- DAX mastery: Advanced, production‑grade DAX skills for complex measures, filter context, time intelligence, and performance tuning.
- SQL proficiency: Strong ability to author and optimize complex SQL using joins, CTEs, window functions, aggregations, subqueries, views, and reusable logic.
- Dimensional modeling: Proven design and maintenance of fact/dimension models with clear grain, correct relationships, and performance focus.
- End‑to‑end troubleshooting: Demonstrated track record resolving production issues across source systems, ETL/pipelines, semantic models, Power BI Service, and report outputs.
- Data validation and reconciliation: Experience validating dashboards and KPIs against source systems, finance rules, and SQL outputs to restore and maintain trust.
- Governance and security: Practical experience implementing RLS, workspace/app access strategies, and governance practices for secure, compliant reporting.
- Deployment and release discipline: Familiarity with Dev/UAT/Prod deployment models, CI/CD concepts, and release governance for BI solutions.
