An entry-level WordPress & Shopify Developer (often called a junior or intern) focuses on building, customizing, and maintaining websites using WordPress. At this stage, the role is more about learning, assisting, and handling smaller tasks under guidance.
Core Responsibilities
1. Website Setup & Configuration
Install WordPress, set up themes, configure basic settings, and make the site ready for development.
2. Theme Customization
Modify existing themes (instead of building from scratch) using HTML, CSS, and some PHP to match design requirements.
3. Plugin Installation & Management
Install and configure plugins for features like SEO, forms, security, and performance (e.g., Yoast SEO, Elementor).
4. Basic Front-End Development
Work on layout, styling, responsiveness, and minor UI improvements using HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
5. Content Updates
Upload blog posts, images, and pages; format content properly inside the WordPress dashboard.
6. Bug Fixing & Maintenance
Fix small issues (layout breaks, plugin conflicts), update plugins/themes, and ensure the site runs smoothly.
7. Website Optimization
Perform basic speed optimization (image compression, caching) and ensure mobile responsiveness.
8. SEO Basics Implementation
Add meta tags, optimize headings, and ensure pages follow SEO-friendly practices.
Learning & Growth Tasks
- Understanding WordPress structure (themes, plugins, templates)
- Learning PHP basics for customization
- Working with page builders and custom themes
- Version control basics (sometimes using Git)
Optional Responsibilities (depending on company)
- Creating simple custom themes
- Working with WooCommerce for e-commerce sites
- Basic database handling (MySQL)
- Website migration and backups
