Full job description

A Textile Merchandiser manages the entire process of developing, producing, and delivering textile products (garments, fabrics, or apparel) from the manufacturer to the buyer. They coordinate between buyers, suppliers, production teams, and logistics to ensure products are delivered on time, within budget, and meeting quality standards.

Textile Merchandiser – Job Description1. Product Development

Communicate with buyers about product specifications, designs, fabrics, trims, and colors.
Coordinate sampling and prototype development.
Ensure samples meet buyer requirements before bulk production.

2. Order Management

Receive purchase orders from buyers.
Calculate costing and pricing of garments or fabrics.
Confirm order quantities, delivery dates, and payment terms.

3. Production Coordination

Work with production, weaving, dyeing, and finishing departments.
Monitor production schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
Solve production issues related to materials, quality, or delays.

4. Supplier & Material Management

Source fabrics, yarns, trims, and accessories.
Maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors.
Ensure raw materials arrive on time.

5. Quality Control

Check product quality during sampling and production stages.
Coordinate inspections and testing.
Ensure products meet buyer and industry standards.

6. Costing & Budget Control

Prepare cost sheets including fabric, labor, accessories, and overhead.
Negotiate prices with suppliers.
Control production costs to maintain profit margins.

7. Documentation & Communication

Maintain order records, invoices, shipment documents, and production reports.
Communicate with international buyers via email or meetings.
Track order status and update buyers regularly.

8. Shipping & Delivery

Coordinate with logistics and shipping departments.
Ensure products are packed and shipped according to buyer requirements.
Handle export documentation if applicable.

Key Skills Required

Knowledge of textile fabrics, garments, and production processes
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Time management and multitasking ability
Basic knowledge of costing and merchandising calculations
Familiarity with Excel, ERP, and merchandising software

Educational Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, or Apparel Production.
