Full job description

Instructional Designer - Consultant

1. Objective

To design and develop high-quality, pedagogically sound instructional materials aligned with defined learning objectives and organizational goals, ensuring learner engagement, clarity, and measurable outcomes.

2. Point of Contact

Senior Manager – Content & Curriculum

3. Scope of Work

The Consultant will independently:

Conduct structured consultations with subject matter experts (SMEs) to define target audience, learning objectives, and instructional approach.
Develop instructional design blueprints, storyboards, and learning architecture.
Design and develop learning materials, including but not limited to:
E-learning modules
Instructor-led training (ILT) materials
Facilitator guides and learner workbooks
Job aids and toolkits
Assessment tools and interactive activities
Apply evidence-based instructional design methodologies to ensure retention and application.
Integrate scenario-based learning, simulations, and reflective exercises where appropriate.
Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure alignment, accuracy, clarity, and instructional integrity.
Coordinate with LMS administrators for course packaging, upload readiness, and learner experience optimization.
Manage assigned projects end-to-end and deliver within agreed timelines.

4. Key Deliverables

Deliverables may include (as per project assignment):

Learning Needs Analysis summary (if required)
Instructional design document / storyboard
Developed course materials (ILT / e-learning / blended)
Assessment instruments
LMS-ready course package
Final revised versions incorporating stakeholder feedback

5. Engagement Structure

The Consultant will operate as an independent contractor and individual contributor.
Work will be milestone-based with agreed review cycles.
Timelines and deliverables will be mutually agreed upon by per assignment.

Engagement Model: Monthly Retainer / Hourly Basis

Professional Fee: Rs 1,200 – Rs 2,000 per hour
Scope of Work: Up to 2 instructional design projects or approximately 100 hours per month
Taxes: Fees are exclusive of applicable GST (if applicable)

6. Work Schedule

Work Schedule:Monday to Friday
Work Mode:Hybrid (minimum 2 days from office)
Weekly Commitment:30–35 hours (with flexibility in scheduling)
Reporting To: Senior Managers
Contract Duration: 6 months from the start date

7. Desired Experience

3–5 years of experience in instructional design
Strong storytelling and content structuring skills
Ability to develop instructional design blueprints, storyboards, and learning architectures
