Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to take full ownership of the organisation's accounting, financial reporting, and statutory compliance. This is not just a books-maintenance role. We require someone who understands the numbers, can connect the dots, and brings the finance team and management the right information at the right time — whether that is a spike in costs, a dip in collections, or a gap between budget and actuals.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Controls
- Take full ownership of day-to-day accounting — ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately and on time
- Review the work of the junior accountant and ensure quality and correctness across all entries
- Handle month-end and year-end closing — including accruals, provisions, prepaid adjustments, and ledger clean-up
- Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure correct depreciation accounting
- Ensure all transactions are correctly mapped to the right cost centres and heads of account
- Perform and review bank, general ledger, vendor, and customer reconciliations regularly
- Maintain all financial records and supporting documents in a well-organised manner, audit-ready at all times
Accounts Payable & Vendor Management
- Oversee the end-to-end accounts payable process and ensure vendor payments are made accurately and on time
- Review and approve vendor invoices, payment requests, and ensure the correct approvals are in place before any payment goes out
- Ensure proper matching of purchase orders, goods receipt, and invoices before processing payments
- Review vendor aging reports regularly and manage escalations on overdue items
- Maintain healthy vendor relationships and handle any payment disputes or reconciliation differences
- Plan AP cash outflows and coordinate with the Finance Manager on payment scheduling
- Review and sign off on vendor reconciliation statements on a periodic basis
Financial Reporting & MIS
- Prepare monthly Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheet, and Trial Balance
- Ensure the Trial Balance is fully reconciled before reporting to the management
- Put together monthly MIS reports — covering revenue, expenses, collections, and other key financial numbers
- Prepare detailed expense reports, including comparison against prior periods and budget
- Prepare revenue and sales reports on a monthly basis
- Ensure all reports are ready on time and presented in a clear, easy-to-read format
Revenue & Collections Management
- Maintain and track student fee collection records across batches, courses, and campuses
- Prepare fee collection reports and reconcile them with the accounting system regularly
- Monitor outstanding fee receivables and coordinate with the relevant teams to ensure timely collection
- Perform course-wise and batch-wise revenue reconciliation
- Ensure all fee receipts are properly recorded, allocated, and accounted for
Financial Analysis & Business Insights
- Prepare monthly cost analysis and identify areas where spending has increased — with reasons and supporting data
- Prepare sales analysis by course, batch, and campus — and flag any trends worth the management's attention
- Carry out variance analysis every month — actual vs budget — and explain the key differences clearly
- Spot patterns in income and expense data and share findings proactively, without waiting to be asked
- Support the preparation of the annual budget and periodic financial forecasts
- Assist in financial projections and scenario planning as and when the management needs it
- Suggest practical cost reduction and optimisation steps based on actual spending data
Statutory Compliance — TDS & GST
- Own end-to-end TDS compliance — correct deduction, timely payment, and return filing (Form 26Q and 24Q)
- Handle GST return filing — GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, and annual returns — with zero defaults on deadlines
- Perform GSTR-2B reconciliation every month and ensure input tax credit is correctly claimed
- Liaise with tax consultants and respond to any department notices or queries
- Keep all compliance-related records properly maintained and ready for inspection at any time
Audit & Accounts Closure
- Lead the year-end accounts closure process and ensure books are finalised within the required timeline
- Coordinate with statutory and internal auditors — prepare schedules, provide documents, and respond to queries
- Ensure audit requirements are anticipated well in advance and not handled at the last minute
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce (B.Com) – mandatory
- More than 2 years of hands-on accounting experience – mandatory
- Experience at a CA firm – mandatory
- Proven experience in TDS and GST filing – mandatory
- Any professional qualification (CA Inter, CMA Inter, or similar) – added advantage
