Responsible for providing advanced, continuous nursing care to critically ill patients in ICU. Monitors life-support equipment, administers medications, and coordinates with doctors to ensure patient safety and recovery as per NABH protocols.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
A. Patient Care
Monitoring: Continuous monitoring of vitals – HR, BP, SpO2, ECG, CVP, ABG. Record on ICU charts hourly
Ventilator Care: Assist in intubation/extubation. Check ventilator settings, suctioning, ABG interpretation
Medication: Administer high-risk drugs, inotropes, sedation as per doctor order. Follow 5 Rights + double check
Procedures: Assist in central line, arterial line, tracheostomy, dialysis. Maintain asepsis
Emergency Response: Initiate CPR, code blue response, crash cart handling
B. Documentation & Compliance
Charts: Maintain ICU monitoring sheet, intake-output, drug chart, nurse notes. Real-time entry
NABH Protocols: Follow hand hygiene, bundle care for VAP, CLABSI, CAUTI prevention. Incident reporting
Handover: Complete SBAR handover during shift change. Check all equipment functionality
C. Equipment & Infection Control
Equipment: Daily check of ventilator, monitors, defibrillator, infusion pumps. Tag & report faulty
Infection Control: Follow strict aseptic techniques. PPE use, biomedical waste segregation as per BMW rules
D. Family & Team Coordination
Counseling: Update attendants daily in simple language. Counsel during crisis with empathy
Coordination: Coordinate with doctors, RT, dietitian, physiotherapist, lab for patient care
Qualifications & Experience
Education: GNM / http://B.Sc Nursing from recognized institute. Must be registered with State Nursing Council
Experience: Min 1-2 years in ICU/CCU for Staff Nurse. Freshers with ICU training considered for Jr. role
Certifications: BLS + ACLS mandatory. Critical Care Nursing Certificate preferred
