Job Description: Footwear Screener

Department: Footwear / Podiatry / Diabetic Foot Care

Reporting To: Doctor / Footwear In-charge / Clinic Manager /VP

Role Type: Full-time

Role Summary

The Footwear Screener / Podiatry Machine Operator is responsible for screening patients’ feet, operating podiatry-related machines, supporting footwear scanning, assisting with footwear trials, educating patients, maintaining records, and visiting doctors or referral clinics for diabetic foot screening and footwear promotion.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Handling and Foot Screening

Greet patients politely and guide them through the screening process.

Check basic foot condition before footwear suggestion.

Observe for callus, corn, ulcer, wound, deformity, flat foot, dryness, heel fissure, fungal infection, neuropathy risk, and pressure areas.

Immediately inform the doctor if any high-risk foot condition is found.

Follow doctor’s advice before recommending footwear, insoles, or other footcare products.

2. Podiatry Machine Handling

Operate podiatry machines as trained and instructed by the doctor.

Handle foot scanning machine, pressure mapping machine, vibration perception / neuropathy screening device, ABI or vascular screening device, and other podiatry equipment as available.

Prepare the patient properly before machine testing.

Ensure correct positioning of the patient during tests.

Record readings accurately and submit reports to the doctor.

Clean and maintain machines after use.

Report machine errors, damage, calibration issues, or technical problems immediately.

3. Footwear Scanning and Trial

Perform footwear scanning accurately as advised by the surgeon or doctor.

Assist patients in footwear trial and comfort checking.

Check fit, walking comfort, pressure points, and patient feedback.

Suggest adjustment, rework, or replacement only after approval from the concerned in-charge or doctor.

Coordinate customized footwear and insole requirements.

4. Doctor Visit and Field Coordination

Visit doctors, clinics, hospitals, diagnostic centres, and referral partners as assigned.

Explain CDFC footwear, diabetic foot screening, podiatry services, and referral process to doctors and clinic staff.

Conduct basic foot screening camps or machine demonstrations where required.

Collect referral details and coordinate appointments for patients.

Maintain doctor visit records, follow-up notes, and referral reports.

Build and maintain professional relationships with doctors and healthcare partners.

Share daily visit reports with the manager.

5. Patient Education

Explain the importance of diabetic footwear, customized insoles, socks, moisturizer, and regular foot check-ups.

Guide patients on correct footwear usage, do’s and don’ts, cleaning, and follow-up review.

Encourage patients to bring footwear during follow-up visits for checking.

Educate patients not to walk barefoot and to report wounds, shoe bites, swelling, or pain immediately.

6. Order and Follow-up Management

Maintain proper records of footwear orders, scans, measurements, follow-ups, complaints, and feedback.

Coordinate with billing, reception, footwear production, courier, and delivery teams.

Follow up with patients for trial, delivery, rework, and review.

Update the manager regarding pending orders or patient complaints.

7. Stock and Workplace Maintenance

Keep footwear display and screening area clean and well arranged.

Check stock of footwear, insoles, socks, moisturizer, and related products.

Report stock shortage to the in-charge.

Ensure podiatry machines and accessories are stored safely after use.

Qualification

Minimum Qualification: Diploma / Degree in Biomedical Engineering.

Candidates with knowledge of medical equipment handling, calibration, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting will be preferred.

Additional training in diabetic foot care, podiatry machine operation, foot scanning, and footwear screening will be provided.

Freshers from a biomedical background can apply.

Experience in hospital equipment handling, podiatry machines, pressure mapping, ABI, biothesiometry, or foot scanning devices will be an added advantage.

Required Skills

Basic knowledge of diabetic foot care and footwear screening.

Ability to operate podiatry machines after training.

Knowledge of medical equipment handling and basic troubleshooting.

Good patient communication skills.

Ability to visit doctors and explain services professionally.

Basic computer or mobile app usage.

Accurate documentation and reporting.

Willingness to travel for doctor visits, camps, and partner clinic activities.

Polite behaviour, discipline, and teamwork.

Experience

Fresher to 2 years.

Experience in biomedical equipment handling, diabetic foot care, podiatry, footwear, orthotics, field visits, or healthcare marketing will be an added advantage.

Accuracy in foot screening and machine handling.

Proper documentation of reports and patient details.

Number and quality of doctor visits.

Referral generation from doctors and clinics.

Patient satisfaction and follow-up compliance.

Timely coordination of footwear orders.

Cleanliness and maintenance of machines and footwear area.

Professional Conduct

Maintain patient confidentiality.

Do not give independent medical diagnosis.

Do not suggest treatment for wounds, ulcers, neuropathy, or vascular problems without doctor approval.

Escalate high-risk cases immediately.

Maintain professional behaviour during doctor visits and patient interactions
