n endoscopy technician (or GI technician) assists physicians and nurses in performing minimally invasive gastrointestinal procedures. They are responsible for preparing the procedure rooms, meticulously cleaning and sterilizing delicate endoscopic equipment, and providing technical support during examinations. [1, 2, 3]A comprehensive breakdown of the role includes:Core Responsibilities

Equipment Reprocessing: Perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of endoscopes and accessories according to manufacturer and hospital guidelines.
Procedure Assistance: Set up procedure rooms, position patients, and assist physicians with endoscopic tools (like snares or biopsy forceps) during the procedure.
Patient Care: Help prepare patients by reviewing their history, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring their comfort during and after the procedure.
Inventory Management: Monitor supply levels, restock procedure rooms, and ensure no expired items are used.

Required Qualifications

Education: Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with specialized certification or training as a GI technician or central service technician
Certifications: Many facilities require or prefer a Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) or Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) credential.
Key Skills: Strong infection control knowledge, high attention to detail, physical stamina, and excellent interpersonal skills to calm nervous patients.
