Job Description – CBSE School Librarian Position

Location - Coimbatore (Vadavalli)

Job Summary

The School Librarian is responsible for managing and developing the school library in accordance with the guidelines of the Central Board of Secondary Education. The librarian promotes reading habits, information literacy, research skills, and lifelong learning among students and staff while ensuring the efficient operation of library resources and services.

Key Responsibilities Library Management

Organize, maintain, and manage the school library and its resources.
Classify, catalog, and issue books, journals, magazines, newspapers, and digital resources.
Maintain accurate records of library inventory, circulation, and membership.
Ensure proper shelving, preservation, and maintenance of library materials.

Student Support and Reading Promotion

Encourage reading habits and a love for books among students.
Conduct library orientation sessions for students and staff.
Organize book fairs, reading programs, storytelling sessions, author talks, and literary activities.
Guide students in selecting age-appropriate reading and reference materials.

Information and Research Services

Assist students and teachers in locating and using information resources effectively.
Support research projects, assignments, and academic activities.
Promote information literacy and ethical use of information.
Facilitate access to digital libraries, e-books, and online learning resources.

Collection Development

Recommend and procure books, journals, and educational resources based on curriculum requirements and student interests.
Review and update library collections regularly.
Coordinate with teachers and school leadership regarding resource needs.

Technology Integration

Utilize library management software for cataloging and circulation.
Manage digital resources, e-books, and online databases.
Support students and staff in accessing digital learning materials.

Administrative Responsibilities

Prepare library reports, inventories, and usage statistics.
Maintain library budgets and procurement records.
Enforce library policies and procedures.
Coordinate library schedules and ensure a conducive learning environment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Library and Information Science (B.Lib.I.Sc.) or Library Science.
Knowledge of library management systems and cataloging practices.
Good communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (M.Lib.I.Sc.).
Experience working in a CBSE or equivalent school.
Familiarity with digital library platforms and educational technology.
