Job Summary
The Consultant – Nuclear Medicine is responsible for providing comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine services for oncology patients. The role involves performing and interpreting advanced molecular imaging studies, including PET-CT, SPECT-CT, and radionuclide therapies, to support accurate cancer diagnosis, staging, treatment planning, response assessment, and follow-up care.
The Consultant collaborates closely with medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, and multidisciplinary cancer teams to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care while ensuring compliance with radiation safety regulations and quality standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Perform and interpret nuclear medicine diagnostic procedures, including:
- PET-CT scans
- SPECT-CT scans
- Bone scans
- Thyroid scans
- Renal scans
- Cardiac nuclear imaging (where applicable)
- Sentinel lymph node mapping
- Oncology-specific molecular imaging studies
- Evaluate and report imaging findings accurately and promptly.
- Correlate nuclear medicine findings with clinical, laboratory, pathological, and radiological data.
- Provide consultation regarding appropriate imaging protocols and nuclear medicine investigations.
- Participate in cancer diagnosis, staging, restaging, and treatment response assessments.
- Monitor disease progression and recurrence through advanced imaging techniques.
Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine Services
- Assess patient suitability for radionuclide therapies.
- Administer and supervise therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures, including:
- Radioiodine therapy
- Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) therapies
- PSMA-targeted radionuclide therapy
- Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT)
- Bone pain palliation therapies
- Other approved radiopharmaceutical treatments
- Monitor patients before, during, and after therapeutic procedures.
- Manage and document treatment-related adverse effects and outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with radiation protection protocols during therapeutic procedures.
Multidisciplinary Oncology Collaboration
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings.
- Discuss imaging findings and treatment recommendations with oncology teams.
- Assist clinicians in selecting appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine options.
- Contribute to integrated cancer care pathways and treatment planning.
Radiation Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all radiation safety regulations and guidelines.
- Monitor radiation exposure levels and safety practices.
- Maintain compliance with national and international regulatory requirements.
- Participate in radiation safety audits and quality assurance programs.
- Educate staff regarding radiation protection measures.
Quality Assurance & Department Management
- Ensure high-quality imaging acquisition and reporting standards.
- Monitor performance and calibration of nuclear medicine equipment.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Develop and update departmental protocols and SOPs.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting systems.
Patient Care & Communication
- Explain procedures, benefits, risks, and precautions to patients and families.
- Obtain informed consent where required.
- Provide compassionate care to oncology patients.
- Address patient concerns regarding diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and ethical medical practice.
Academic & Research Responsibilities
- Participate in clinical research, audits, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Contribute to scientific publications and presentations.
- Train residents, fellows, technologists, and healthcare professionals.
- Attend CME programs, conferences, and professional development activities.
- Stay updated with advancements in molecular imaging and radionuclide therapies.
QualificationsEssential
- MBBS from a recognized institution.
- MD/DNB in Nuclear Medicine.
- Valid Medical Council Registration.
- Certification and authorization as required by applicable radiation regulatory authorities.
Preferred
- Fellowship or specialized training in Oncology Imaging or Theranostics.
- Additional expertise in PET-CT and radionuclide therapies.
- Experience in tertiary care cancer hospitals or oncology centers.
Experience
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of post-specialization experience in Nuclear Medicine.
- Prior experience in an Oncology Nuclear Medicine Department preferred.
- Experience in PET-CT reporting, SPECT-CT imaging, and radionuclide therapy programs.
- Familiarity with modern molecular imaging technologies and oncology protocols.

Pay: ₹250,000.00 - ₹300,000.00 per month
