Job Description

Job Title: Water Analyst
Department: Environment Lab
Location: Mohali

Qualification

Master's Degree (M.Sc.) in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Chemistry or a related discipline.
Additional training in ISO/IEC 17025:2017, APHA, BIS (IS 3025), EPA, or other standard analytical methods will be an added advantage.

Experience

1–3 years of experience in an NABL-accredited water testing laboratory.
Fresh postgraduates with strong laboratory skills may also be considered for trainee positions.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine and advanced analysis of water and wastewater samples using approved test methods.
Conduct analysis for parameters such as pH, conductivity, TDS, alkalinity, hardness, chloride, sulphate, nitrate, fluoride, COD, BOD, DO, heavy metals, and other specified parameters.
Operate, calibrate, verify, and maintain laboratory instruments including UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, AAS/ICP-OES (where applicable), TOC Analyzer, pH Meter, Conductivity Meter, Turbidity Meter, COD Reactor, BOD Incubator, and analytical balances.
Prepare reagents, standards, calibration solutions, and quality control samples.
Maintain complete analytical records, worksheets, instrument logbooks, calibration records, and test reports.
Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017, NABL guidelines, laboratory SOPs, and quality management system requirements.
Participate in method validation, method verification, estimation of measurement uncertainty, and internal quality control activities.
Participate in proficiency testing (PT), inter-laboratory comparison (ILC), internal audits, and corrective/preventive actions.
Review analytical data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance before reporting.
Ensure proper sample receipt, identification, storage, preservation, and disposal.
Follow laboratory safety practices, chemical handling procedures, and waste disposal protocols.
Assist during NABL assessments, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and training of junior laboratory personnel.

Required Technical Skills

Strong understanding of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 quality management requirements.
Hands-on experience with analytical instruments used in water testing laboratories.
Knowledge of QA/QC practices, calibration, method validation, and measurement uncertainty.
Familiarity with LIMS or laboratory data management systems is desirable.
Good documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
