Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Academic Mentor to support government school teachers in delivering high-quality foundational literacy and numeracy lessons using structured pedagogy. The role involves providing intensive academic and behavioral coaching, building strong relationships with school stakeholders, and contributing to program strategy through data-driven insights and capacity-building efforts. About the Role:
Position Summary
The Academic Mentor will work closely with the Senior Program Manager to drive the on-ground implementation of the program, aligning with the District Program Management Unit (DPMU) priorities. The role focuses on coaching government school teachers to deliver district-specific solutions that enhance foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes.
Teacher Coaching and Support:
- Provide in-depth, regular academic and behavioral coaching to government school teachers to enhance their delivery of foundational literacy and numeracy lessons to students aged 4-8 years.
- Conduct frequent school visits (independently and/or as part of a team) to offer on-ground implementation support, model best practices, and ensure adherence to structured pedagogy teaching materials.
- Foster mentoring relationships with teachers and Headmasters (HMs) to build trust and drive instructional improvement.
Program Execution and Alignment:
- Collaborate with the Program Team to execute district-wide priorities, ensuring alignment with district and state educational goals.
- Support the design and implementation of program initiatives to strengthen foundational learning outcomes.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with district/block officials, school leaders, teachers, students, and community stakeholders.
- Coordinate between schools and district/block authorities to address implementation bottlenecks
Data-Driven Insights:
- Collect and interpret school-level data (e.g., student performance, teacher engagement, classroom observations) to track progress.
- Use data to inform coaching and implementation decisions.
Communication and Reporting:
- Develop and deliver clear, concise project-related communications, including status updates, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Document and share success stories, challenges, and lessons learned from the field to support program advocacy and improvement.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Degree B.El.Ed/D.El.Ed/B.Ed / M.A in Education or a related field
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in teaching, teacher training, or education, preferably in the public education sector.
- Experience working with government schools, teachers, or district-level education systems is desirable.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of foundational literacy (Hindi, English) and numeracy pedagogy.
- Excellent coaching, mentoring, and facilitation skills with the ability to build trust and rapport.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting to drive evidence-based decisions.
- Strong school-facing communication and interpersonal skills to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle multiple priorities.
- Knowledge and understanding and application of Competency level of students in the assessment in the classroom. Training and facilitation experience
- Candidates should possess basic AI literacy and comfort using AI tools.
- Other Requirements:
- Willingness to travel 20 days in a month independently within the district for school visits and stakeholder meetings
- Fluency in Hindi and English (written and spoken) Mandatory.
