Position Overview
The Production Manager will lead all aspects of production operations at the Ahmedabad facility, with direct accountability for manufacturing output, operational safety, regulatory compliance, and team performance. This is a senior leadership role requiring a proven track record in managing high-volume or high-complexity production environments, implementing robust safety programs, and driving compliance with Indian and international manufacturing standards.
The ideal candidate is a disciplined operations leader who combines strong technical engineering fundamentals with strategic thinking, workforce management skills, and an uncompromising commitment to safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations Management
- Oversee end-to-end production operations including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and output delivery against committed targets
- Establish and maintain production KPIs including OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), cycle time, yield, and throughput; drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with supply chain, procurement, and engineering teams to ensure uninterrupted material flow and manufacturing readiness
- Lead capacity planning and capacity expansion efforts aligned with business growth requirements
- Manage shift supervisors and production team leaders, ensuring consistent operating discipline across all shifts
Safety Leadership
- Serve as the primary safety champion for the Ahmedabad production facility, enforcing a zero-compromise safety culture at every level of the organization
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the facility's Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) management system in accordance with ISO 45001 and applicable Indian regulations (Factories Act, 1948; MSIHC Rules)
- Conduct and oversee regular safety audits, risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and near-miss investigations; ensure timely corrective action and root cause resolution
- Drive safety training programs including emergency response, PPE compliance, fire safety, chemical handling, and electrical safety
- Maintain all statutory safety records, licenses, and reporting obligations; liaise with factory inspectors and regulatory bodies as required
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure manufacturing operations comply with relevant quality management standards including ISO 9001 and ATRI's internal Design Maturity requirements
- Partner with the Quality Assurance team to implement in-process quality controls, incoming inspection protocols, and first-article inspection (FAI) procedures
- Maintain readiness for internal and third-party audits; lead preparation activities and own closure of non-conformances
- Enforce change management protocols (ECO/ECN) across production to ensure design intent is preserved through to manufactured output
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations including hazardous waste handling, emissions, and effluent standards under applicable Indian law (EPA, Water Act, Air Act)
People & Culture
- Lead, mentor, and develop a production workforce of 50+ employees; build a culture of accountability, respect, and operational excellence
- Partner with HR on workforce planning, talent development, performance management, and labor relations in compliance with the Industrial Disputes Act and Shops & Establishments Act
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with R&D, firmware, and supply chain teams to support new product introductions (NPI) and design transitions into production
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- 10–15 years of progressive experience in production or manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
- Demonstrated expertise in EHS management, safety program development, and regulatory compliance within an Indian manufacturing context
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems and shop-floor quality control methodologies (SPC, FMEA, 8D)
- Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement frameworks; Green Belt or Black Belt certification preferred
- Proven ability to manage large, multi-shift production teams and drive performance in high-accountability environments
- Proficiency in production planning tools, ERP systems, and manufacturing data analysis
Preferred
- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor or internal auditor certification
- Experience in electromechanical systems, embedded product manufacturing, or precision engineering environments
- Familiarity with ATRI's design maturity phases and stage-gate product development processes
- Exposure to export control, ITAR/EAR compliance, or defense-adjacent manufacturing regulations
- Postgraduate qualification (MBA / M.Tech) in Operations Management or related field
