Job Title: Assistant Manager – Production (Hazardous Solid Waste Pre-Processing)
We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Production - Assistant Manager to oversee our Hazardous Solid Waste Pre-Processing operations. In this role, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day plant operations, ensuring the safe receipt, segregation, blending, and pre-processing of hazardous waste into alternative fuels and raw materials (AFR) or designated disposal forms.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of chemical safety, and a proven track record of optimizing production throughput while maintaining strict compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Management & Optimization
- Supervise and execute daily production schedules for hazardous solid waste pre-processing (shredding, blending, moisture control, and homogenization).
- Monitor plant machinery (e.g., shredders, mixers, conveyors, filter presses) to ensure optimal capacity utilization and minimal downtime.
- Manage inventory flow, ensuring waste materials are processed efficiently from storage yards to the processing unit.
- Implement process improvement initiatives (Lean/5S) to enhance throughput, reduce operational costs, and minimize residue generation.
2. Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Compliance
- Enforce absolute compliance with national/local environmental regulations and hazardous waste management rules.
- Ensure the strict usage of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by all operating staff and contract laborers.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), and toolbox talks to maintain a "Zero Accident" culture.
- Oversee safe handling of volatile, flammable, toxic, or reactive solid wastes, ensuring proper grounding and ventilation protocols are met.
3. Quality & Process Control
- Collaborate closely with the laboratory team to understand waste fingerprints (calorific value, moisture, ash, chlorine, and heavy metal content).
- Ensure precise batch blending of solid wastes to meet strict quality specifications for end-users (e.g., cement kiln co-processing or incineration).
- Maintain meticulous documentation of waste tracking, batch processing sheets, and daily production logs.
4. Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and train a team of shift supervisors, operators, and technicians.
- Manage workforce allocation, shift scheduling, and resolve shop-floor grievances effectively.
- Evaluate team performance and identify training needs regarding hazardous material handling and emergency response.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or M.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry / Environmental Science.
- Experience: 5 to 7 years of core experience in hazardous waste management, chemical processing plants, or AFR (Alternative Fuel and Raw Materials) pre-processing facilities.
- Technical Expertise: * Hands-on experience with solid waste processing equipment (industrial shredders, screeners, blenders, pneumatic conveying systems).
- Strong knowledge of hazardous waste characteristics, chemical compatibility charts, and segregation methodologies.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing Hazardous Waste Management (storage, transport, and disposal).
Key Skills & Competencies
- Safety First Mindset: Deep understanding of HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Studies), chemical spill response, and fire-fighting systems for hazardous zones.
- Leadership: Proven ability to manage directly employed staff as well as contract labor forces under challenging operational environments.
- Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset to troubleshoot mechanical bottlenecks or chemical composition deviations on the fly.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional coordination with Laboratory, Logistics, and Maintenance teams.
