1. Job Purpose
The Automation Manager will be responsible for ensuring smooth operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, validation support, and continuous improvement of automated production machines and systems used in the manufacturing of IVD medical devices. The role focuses on maximizing machine uptime, ensuring compliance with ISO 13485 and GMP requirements, reducing breakdowns, improving OEE, and supporting automation initiatives for efficient production operations.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Automation & Machine Maintenance
- Manage preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities for automated production machines.
- Ensure minimum machine downtime and maximum production efficiency.
- Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, SCADA, servo systems, sensors, pneumatic, and robotic systems.
- Monitor and improve machine performance, MTBF, and MTTR.
- Maintain automation systems used in:
- Assembly Machines
- Filling Machines
- Packaging Lines
- Labeling Machines
- Vision Inspection Systems
- Conveyor Systems
- Leak Testing Machines
- Auto Dispensing Systems
B. PLC & Control System Management
- Handle PLC programming and troubleshooting.
- Support automation upgrades and modifications.
- Maintain backup of PLC/HMI programs and machine parameters.
- Coordinate with OEMs and vendors for software upgrades and technical support.
- Ensure cybersecurity and controlled access for machine software systems.
C. Preventive Maintenance & Documentation
- Prepare annual preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain machine history records and maintenance logs.
- Ensure proper documentation as per:
- ISO 13485
- GMP
- Medical Device Regulations
- Internal SOP requirements
- Maintain calibration coordination for sensors and instruments.
D. Validation & Compliance Support
- Support IQ, OQ, PQ validation activities for automated equipment.
- Ensure machines comply with medical device manufacturing standards.
- Participate in audits:
- Internal Audits
- ISO Audits
- Customer Audits
- Regulatory Audits
- Support CAPA implementation related to engineering and automation.
E. Continuous Improvement
- Lead Kaizen and automation improvement projects.
- Improve:
- OEE
- Energy efficiency
- Machine reliability
- Production productivity
- Reduce machine rejection and downtime through root cause analysis.
- Implement predictive maintenance systems where applicable.
F. Team Management
- Lead and train automation engineers, maintenance engineers, and technicians.
- Develop technical competency of maintenance staff.
- Ensure shift-wise engineering support availability.
- Monitor contractor and vendor performance.
G. Spare & Utility Management
- Maintain critical spare inventory for automation systems.
- Coordinate procurement of machine spare parts.
- Ensure proper utility support:
- Compressed Air
- HVAC Coordination
- Power Supply Stability
- UPS Systems
- ESD Controls
3. Educational Qualification
- B.Tech / BE in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronics Engineering
- Mechatronics
- Instrumentation
- Automation Engineering
Preferred:
- Certification in PLC/SCADA/Industrial Automation.
4. Experience
- 8–15 years of experience in automation and machine maintenance.
- Minimum 3–5 years experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, electronics, or regulated manufacturing industry.
- Experience in IVD manufacturing will be preferred.
