A Charge Entry QA job involves auditing medical billing data for accuracy, ensuring compliance, identifying errors in patient charges, implementing quality controls, and training staff to improve efficiency in the revenue cycle, focusing on preventing claim denials by guaranteeing correct procedure codes and patient details are entered into billing systems. Key duties include conducting regular audits, analyzing performance metrics, providing feedback, and staying updated on billing regulations for a healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities

Auditing & Compliance: Perform audits on charge entry processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to payer rules and industry standards (e.g., HIPAA).
Error Identification: Find discrepancies, missed charges, or incorrect data (like procedure codes, demographics) in patient records.
Process Improvement: Develop and implement quality control measures and workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
Training & Support: Train charge entry specialists on proper procedures, provide feedback, and help resolve complex issues.
Reporting: Analyze data, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and generate reports for management on quality trends.
Data Management: Ensure accurate input of patient demographics, service details, and provider information into billing software.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

Experience: Previous experience in medical billing, revenue cycle management (RCM), and specifically in charge entry.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous focus on accuracy in data entry and auditing.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data and identify root causes of errors.
Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for training and reporting.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with charge entry software and billing systems.
Healthcare Knowledge: Understanding of healthcare reimbursement, medical coding (like CPT/ICD), and billing procedures.
