Job Title

Bakery Chef (Pastry Chef / Head Baker)

Job Summary

A Bakery Chef is responsible for preparing, baking, and presenting a variety of baked goods such as breads, pastries, cakes, and desserts. They ensure high-quality standards, maintain kitchen safety, and may supervise bakery staff in commercial kitchens, hotels, restaurants, or retail bakeries.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and bake breads, cakes, pastries, cookies, and specialty desserts
Develop and test new recipes
Decorate cakes and pastries according to customer or business requirements
Measure and mix ingredients accurately
Monitor oven temperatures and baking times
Ensure food quality, freshness, and presentation standards
Maintain cleanliness and comply with food safety regulations
Manage inventory and order baking supplies
Train and supervise junior bakers or kitchen assistants
Handle customer orders and custom cake requests (if retail-based)

Required Skills & Qualifications

Proven experience as a baker or pastry chef
Knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment
Creativity and attention to detail
Strong time-management skills
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
Physical stamina to stand for long hours

Education (optional but preferred):

Culinary arts diploma or pastry certification
Apprenticeship training in a bakery or hotel kitchen
