Position Title: Librarian

Department: Academics

Reports To: Principal

Job Summary:

The Librarian is responsible for managing the school library and ensuring students and staff have access to a well-organized and resourceful learning environment. The role includes maintaining library resources, encouraging reading habits among students, supporting academic activities, and managing library operations efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

Library Management

Organize, maintain, and manage library books, journals, magazines, and digital resources.
Ensure proper cataloging, classification, and shelving of books and materials.
Maintain records of issued and returned books.
Monitor and update library inventory regularly.

Student & Staff Support

Assist students and staff in locating and selecting appropriate learning resources.
Promote reading habits and library usage among students.
Guide students in research and information-gathering activities.
Support teachers with academic and reference materials.

Library Operations

Maintain discipline and a quiet learning environment in the library.
Issue and collect books and ensure timely return of library materials.
Prepare library reports and maintain usage records.
Ensure proper care and maintenance of books and library equipment.

Academic Support

Coordinate with teachers regarding curriculum-related resources.
Organize reading programs, book fairs, storytelling sessions, and literary activities.
Encourage participation in reading and language enrichment programs.

Administrative Responsibilities

Recommend procurement of new books and learning materials.
Ensure compliance with school library policies and procedures.
Maintain digital records and library management systems where applicable.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science / Library & Information Science or relevant field.
Master’s Degree in Library Science is preferred.
Prior experience in a school or academic library is preferred.

Skills Required:

Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Knowledge of library management systems and MS Office.
Ability to guide students and promote reading culture.
Attention to detail and time management skills.

Working Conditions:

Full-time position.
School working hours as per institutional policy.

Salary:

As per school norms and candidate experience.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
