The Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), Bangalore, is seeking applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates to fill the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)-funded project, “Reconstream: Systematic Reconstruction of Long-Term Streamflow Records in Indian Rivers Using Geomorphology-Guided Machine Learning”.
The project aims to reconstruct long-term streamflow records across Indian river basins by integrating hydrological modelling, remote sensing, geospatial analysis, climate change, and field observations. The selected candidate will work within an interdisciplinary research team to develop innovative, science-based approaches for climate-resilient water resources management and support decision-making under changing climatic conditions.
Fellowship: As per ANRF norms
Place of Work: ATREE, Bangalore
Employment Type: Full-Time
Why Join This Project?
An opportunity to contribute to high-impact research on hydrology, climate resilience, and sustainable water resource management.
A collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment at ATREE, with opportunities to work closely with researchers from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
Opportunities to publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences.
Hands-on experience with hydrological models, geospatial technologies, remote sensing, and climate change research.
Professional growth through collaboration with leading scientists, policymakers, and practitioners.
Responsibilities
Conduct hydrological modelling, geospatial analysis, and climate change research.
Process and analyse remote sensing, GIS, and hydro-meteorological datasets.
Assist in field surveys, data collection, and validation of model outputs.
Prepare technical reports and scientific publications.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and engage with project stakeholders.
Present research findings at meetings, workshops, and scientific conferences.
Perform other project-related responsibilities assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
A Master’s degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, Geoinformatics, or a closely related discipline.
Preference will be given to candidates with GATE, NET, or other national-level eligibility qualifications.
A sound understanding of hydrological processes, watershed hydrology, and the impacts of climate change on water resources.
Demonstrated knowledge or research experience in hydrological modelling, remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and climate change.
Proficiency in at least one hydrological model (e.g., SWAT, VIC, HEC-HMS, or other conceptual or process-based hydrological models).
Experience with geospatial and programming tools such as QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine, Python, or R.
Strong analytical, technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
The selected candidate will be expected to undertake occasional field visits, as required.
