ROLE SUMMARY:
To head the Tool Room operations across JD Jones & Co's manufacturing units, owning the end-to-end lifecycle of dies, moulds, jigs, and fixtures — from design and vendor-assisted manufacturing to die trials, production release, and lifetime maintenance. The Die Manager is the single technical authority on all tooling matters, ensuring that lead times, precision, and quality match international standards across the company's full product range (compression moulds for PTFE components, injection moulds for polymer products, and press tools/dies for gasket and sealing product manufacturing).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tool Room Leadership & Operations
- Lead Tool Room operations for manufacture, refurbishment, and maintenance of moulds, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
- Handle tooling requirements for PTFE compression moulding, polymer injection moulding, and press operations.
- Ensure timely delivery, quality standards, and smooth coordination with internal teams and vendors.
- Guide tool room engineers, operators, and technicians in daily operations and maintenance activities.
Die & Mould Design
- Prepare die/mould design drawings, machining drawings, and BoMs using AutoCAD.
- Estimate tooling cost covering material, machining, heat treatment, and finishing.
- Ensure manufacturability and shop-floor feasibility of all tooling designs.
Planning, Scheduling & Execution
- Plan and monitor tooling projects with defined timelines and milestones.
- Define machining processes, heat treatment, inspection stages, and tooling maintenance schedules.
- Ensure timely availability of spare parts and dispatch of trial samples (T0/T1).
Vendor Management
- Manage external vendors for outsourced tooling, machining, coatings, and heat treatment activities.
- Track vendor progress, resolve technical issues, and ensure on-time delivery.
- Negotiate commercial terms and develop alternate vendor sources for critical tooling requirements.
Die Trials & Production Release
- Attend tooling trials, monitor dimensional accuracy, and identify process deviations.
- Drive corrective actions and coordinate with production, quality, and machine shop teams for production release.
- Support die modifications, process improvements, and new product development activities.
Die Management & Organisation
- Maintain die/mould inventory, identification systems, PM schedules, and tooling history records.
- Monitor tooling life, repairs, refurbishment, and replacement planning.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, documentation, ISO compliance, and 5S standards.
Education
- Diploma in Tool & Die Making or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- Certification/apprenticeship from CTTC, IGTR, NTTF, or equivalent tool room preferred.
Experience
- 5–8 years of Tool Room experience in die/mould design, tooling projects, and manufacturing planning.
- Hands-on exposure to compression moulds, injection moulds, and press tools/dies.
- Experience in tooling trials, vendor coordination, and production release activities preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in AutoCAD for 2D tooling and machining drawings.
- Knowledge of tool steels, heat treatment, coatings, GD&T, and precision machining.
- Familiar with mould standards, tooling processes, compression moulding, injection moulding, and press operations.
Functional & Behavioural Traits
- Strong project planning, problem-solving, and cost estimation skills.
- Good documentation, coordination, and troubleshooting abilities during trials and production issues.
Language
- Fluency in Hindi/Bengali and English required.
