Key Responsibilities
Design Ownership & Concept Development
- Study customer technical specifications and understand scope of work
- Review existing system constraints and site/vehicle limitations
- Prepare initial concept design and system architecture
- Develop preliminary GA drawings and layout concepts
- Perform layout planning and equipment placement studies
- Carry out basic calculations (space, load, CG, mounting feasibility)
- Identify design risks, constraints, and mitigation approaches
- Coordinate with electrical and propulsion teams for interface requirements
- Define design philosophy, integration approach, and key assumptions
Detailed Engineering Supervision
- Guide design engineers in preparation of 3D models, fabrication and assembly drawings
- Review GA drawings, layout drawings, and installation drawings
- Ensure proper equipment packaging, mounting structures, and integration
- Validate design for manufacturability, serviceability, and safety
Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with electrical, control, and system teams for interface alignment
- Work closely with QA, manufacturing, and field teams during execution
- Support vendor discussions and technical clarifications
- Ensure cross-functional design compatibility and issue resolution
Design Validation & Review
- Review engineering calculations including load, CG, and basic stress considerations
- Coordinate with CAE engineer for FEA, fatigue, and validation activities
- Participate in design reviews and approval processes
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications
Manufacturing & Site Support
- Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and installation
- Resolve shop-floor fabrication, fitment, and welding-related issues
- Support installation and commissioning teams during execution
- Address field issues and incorporate feedback into design improvements
Documentation & Deliverables
- Ensure preparation and release of design documents, drawings, and BOMs
- Maintain revision control and documentation standards
- Prepare calculation sheets, technical notes, and design justifications
Team Mentorship
- Guide and mentor design engineers and junior team members
- Ensure adherence to design processes, standards, and best practices
- Support skill development and technical growth of team members
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Mandatory)
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical / Design Engineering (Preferred)
Required Experience
- 7–12 years of experience in mechanical design and engineering
- Experience in heavy engineering, 3D modelling, vehicle dynamics, industrial equipment
- Strong exposure to fabrication-intensive projects and system integration
- Experience in handling design ownership and team coordination
Required Technical Skills
- Strong mechanical design and structural understanding
- Experience in equipment layout and system integration
- Knowledge of fabrication, welding, and manufacturing processes
- Understanding of GD&T and engineering drawings
- Exposure to FEA coordination and validation processes
- Familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or equivalent
