This role is for a Senior Engineer- Material Handling on mining projects.
In‑depth knowledge of bulk material handling systems including conveyors, crushers, screens, feeders, stackers, reclaimers, transfer chutes, bins, and hoppers.
Strong understanding of material handling design codes and standards such as CEMA, AS, DIN, ISO, IS standards, and relevant client specifications.
Design and develop material handling systems and layouts for mining and industrial projects, including overland conveyors and plant conveying systems.
Review and prepare GA drawings, conveyor profiles, equipment layouts, chute arrangements, and MTOs, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
Engineering & design experience in material handling equipment, conveyor systems, transfer points, chutes, bins, hoppers, steel structures (trusses, galleries), and interfaces with civil & structural works.
Perform material handling design calculations, including conveyor capacity, belt tension, power calculations, chute flow analysis, and equipment duty checks.
Experience with conveyor design software for bulk materials handling applications would be considered advantageous (e.g. Sidewinder, Beltstat, or similar tools).
Experience with Discrete Element Modelling (DEM) software would be considered advantageous (e.g. Rocky DEM, Newton DEM, or similar tools
Preparation and review of technical specifications and datasheets for conveyors, feeders, crushers, special equipment, and accessories.
Preparation of RFQs for bulk material handling equipment and components such as conveyors, idlers, pulleys, gearboxes, motors, belts, chutes, and liners.
Carry out technical evaluation of vendor offers, preparation of technical bid evaluation reports and technical clarifications with suppliers.
Coordinate with vendors, OEMs, and internal disciplines during basic and detailed engineering, procurement, and construction stages.
Assist in resolving material handling design and execution bottlenecks during engineering, fabrication, erection, and commissioning phases.
Support inspection, testing, and review activities related to manufacturing, FAT, site installation, and commissioning.
Must complete a high‑quality self‑check of own work efficiently and follow internal QC procedures.
Report progress of work assignments to the immediate supervisor; understand project schedule and budget requirements.
Communicate effectively with internal peers and project teams and respond to queries related to deliverables.
Capable of multi‑tasking and managing multiple work packages, with the ability to accurately estimate effort and timelines.
Coordinate with Australian lead offices as per project requirements.
Actively participate in design reviews and provide constructability and operability inputs throughout the design process.
Ensure that quality procedures are implemented and maintained.
Provide regular work status updates, including risks or concerns, to the Lead Engineer or Project Manager in AU.
Ensure Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies.
Support the company’s approach to sustainability.
Identify improvements to enhance WSP services to clients.
Complete accurate timesheets by set deadlines.
You will also be computer literate with a reasonable proficiency in MS office suite and Navisworks.
Experience with 3D design tools MicroStation/Open Building designer and conveyor calculation software (Helix, Sidewinder, or similar) is an asset.
