Position Summary
The Pre-Primary & Primary Headmistress will be responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership for the Pre-Primary and Primary sections of the school. The role involves ensuring effective curriculum implementation, maintaining high standards of teaching and learning, mentoring teachers, monitoring student progress, maintaining discipline, and fostering a safe, joyful, and nurturing environment for young learners.
The Headmistress will work closely with the Principal, Vice Principal, teachers, parents, and support teams to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the Pre-Primary and Primary sections.
The ideal candidate should have strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, a deep understanding of early childhood and primary education, and the ability to inspire and mentor teachers.
Key Responsibilities1. Academic Leadership & Curriculum Management
- Oversee the academic functioning of the Pre-Primary and Primary sections.
- Ensure effective implementation of the prescribed curriculum and academic plan.
- Monitor lesson planning, classroom practices, worksheets, activities, and assessments.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
- Ensure age-appropriate, child-centric, experiential, and activity-based learning.
- Monitor syllabus completion and ensure adherence to academic calendars.
- Promote innovative teaching methodologies and effective use of technology.
- Review students' academic progress and identify areas requiring intervention.
- Ensure smooth transition of students from Pre-Primary to Primary grades.
2. Teacher Supervision & Professional Development
- Mentor, guide, and support teachers in lesson planning and classroom management.
- Conduct regular academic meetings and review sessions.
- Monitor teacher performance and provide timely feedback.
- Identify professional development and training requirements.
- Organize or facilitate workshops, training sessions, and peer-learning opportunities.
- Encourage teachers to share best practices and innovative teaching strategies.
- Support the induction and mentoring of newly appointed teachers.
- Build a collaborative, positive, and professional team culture.
3. Early Childhood Education & Child Development
- Ensure a safe, caring, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children.
- Monitor age-appropriate teaching practices in Pre-Primary classes.
- Promote development of children's language, communication, social, emotional, cognitive, and motor skills.
- Encourage play-based, experiential, and activity-oriented learning.
- Monitor classroom environment, learning resources, displays, and student engagement.
- Ensure individual learning needs are identified and appropriately supported.
- Work with teachers and parents to support children's overall development.
4. Student Welfare, Safety & Discipline
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, disciplined, and child-friendly environment.
- Monitor student attendance, punctuality, behavior, and academic progress.
- Address student concerns with sensitivity and appropriate confidentiality.
- Ensure implementation of child protection, safety, health, and well-being policies.
- Promote good manners, values, confidence, responsibility, and positive behavior.
- Coordinate with teachers and support staff to address individual student needs.
- Ensure appropriate supervision of students during school hours, breaks, activities, and events.
5. Parent Communication & Engagement
- Build strong and positive relationships with parents and guardians.
- Conduct and coordinate Parent-Teacher Meetings and academic review sessions.
- Address parent concerns related to academics, behavior, communication, and student well-being.
- Ensure timely and professional communication with parents.
- Guide teachers in effective parent communication.
- Encourage parents to actively participate in their child's learning journey.
6. Assessment & Student Progress
- Oversee the planning and implementation of assessments for Pre-Primary and Primary grades.
- Monitor continuous and comprehensive assessment practices.
- Review student performance and academic data.
- Identify students requiring additional support or enrichment.
- Ensure timely completion of assessments, report cards, and academic records.
- Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of student information.
- Develop and monitor academic intervention plans wherever required.
7. Administrative Responsibilities
- Coordinate the day-to-day academic and operational functioning of the assigned sections.
- Assist in preparing timetables, teacher allocations, and academic schedules.
- Monitor attendance records, registers, lesson plans, academic files, and reports.
- Ensure effective communication of school policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with administration and support departments for smooth school functioning.
- Monitor classroom readiness, teaching resources, displays, and learning materials.
- Support the Principal and Vice Principal in school-level planning and decision-making.
8. Events & Co-Curricular Activities
- Plan and coordinate assemblies, celebrations, competitions, field trips, exhibitions, and special events.
- Encourage students to participate in cultural, literary, creative, and sports activities.
- Ensure activities are age-appropriate, well-organized, and aligned with educational objectives.
- Support teachers in planning engaging co-curricular activities.
- Promote creativity, confidence, communication, teamwork, and leadership among students.
9. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with school policies and applicable CBSE/State Board guidelines.
- Maintain required academic and administrative documentation.
- Support school inspections, audits, and quality assurance processes.
- Monitor implementation of child safety, health, hygiene, and welfare practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Pre-Primary and Primary sections.
10. Leadership & School Culture
- Act as a role model for teachers and students.
- Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative school culture.
- Encourage innovation, accountability, and professional excellence.
- Work closely with the Principal and Vice Principal on school improvement initiatives.
- Ensure consistency in academic standards, discipline, communication, and school practices.
- Contribute actively to the overall vision and growth of the school.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Education or a relevant subject preferred.
- B.Ed. qualification is mandatory.
- Qualification in Early Childhood Education / Montessori / ECCE / Educational Leadership will be an added advantage.
- Strong knowledge of Pre-Primary and Primary teaching-learning practices.
- Good understanding of curriculum planning, assessment, classroom management, and child development.
Experience
- Minimum 5–10 years of teaching experience in Pre-Primary and/or Primary education.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role, such as:
- Academic Coordinator
- Primary Coordinator
- Section Head
- Headmistress
- Head of Department
- Grade Coordinator
- Equivalent academic leadership position
- Experience in CBSE schools preferred.
- Experience handling both Pre-Primary and Primary sections will be an added advantage.
Pay: From ₹60,000.00 per hour
