Experience - 5-6 years in CNC Machining Industry
Role Objective
The Production Manager is responsible for end-to-end production execution, ensuring output, quality, cost, and delivery targets are achieved consistently. The role requires strong shop-floor control, manpower management, process discipline, and coordination across departments. The objective is to ensure on-time production, optimal utilization of resources, minimum rejection, and maximum productivity while maintaining strict process and quality compliance.
Production Planning and Execution
- Execute production plans based on customer orders and PPC schedules.
- Ensure timely completion of production targets without delay.
- Monitor daily production output and align with dispatch commitments.
- Ensure proper sequencing of jobs based on priority and material availability.
- Coordinate with PPC for planning and rescheduling when required.
Shop Floor Management
- Manage complete shop floor operations including CNC machining (VMC / Turning), sheet metal press operations, and assembly lines.
- Ensure discipline, process adherence, and smooth workflow on the shop floor.
- Monitor machine utilization and ensure maximum uptime.
- Resolve production bottlenecks in real time.
- Maintain strong shop-floor presence and ensure supervisors/operators follow defined work instructions.
Manpower Handling and Productivity
- Handle and supervise operators, supervisors, and line engineers.
- Allocate manpower based on production requirements and skill availability.
- Monitor productivity and efficiency of manpower.
- Train and develop team members for skill improvement and multi-tasking.
- Maintain discipline and accountability on the shop floor.
Process Control and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure adherence to SOPs, work instructions, process parameters, and approved production methods.
- Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements.
- Drive productivity improvement initiatives and cycle time reduction.
- Optimize machine utilization, manpower utilization, and workflow.
- Implement lean manufacturing practices where applicable.
Quality Coordination and Control
- Ensure production output meets customer and internal quality standards.
- Coordinate with Quality team for first-piece approval, in-process inspection, and final inspection.
- Reduce rejection, rework, and defects through process control.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Ensure proper handling and segregation of non-conforming products.
Material and Inventory Coordination
- Ensure availability of raw materials, tools, fixtures, gauges, and consumables for production.
- Coordinate with Purchase and Stores for timely material availability.
- Monitor WIP levels and avoid unnecessary accumulation.
- Ensure proper material handling and traceability on shop floor.
- Highlight material shortages and risks before they affect production.
Machine and Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate with Maintenance team for preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Ensure machines are in working condition to meet production targets.
- Minimize downtime through proactive monitoring and escalation.
- Ensure timely reporting of machine issues and support corrective action closure.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to safety practices and PPE usage.
- Maintain a safe working environment on the shop floor.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.
- Drive safe handling of machines, tools, fixtures, and materials.
Production Reporting and MIS
- Prepare and monitor daily production reports.
- Track KPIs such as output, rejection, downtime, efficiency, and manpower productivity.
- Maintain accurate production data in MES / ERP systems where applicable.
- Provide timely reports and updates to management.
- Ensure data accuracy and no cosmetic reporting.
Cross Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with PPC for production schedules and priorities.
- Coordinate with Quality for inspection readiness and defect reduction.
- Coordinate with Purchase and Stores for material availability.
- Coordinate with Maintenance for machine uptime and breakdown closure.
- Ensure smooth communication between departments for uninterrupted production.
