Deputy Dean – Hotel Management

1. Position Overview
The Deputy Dean – Hotel Management will be responsible for supporting the Dean in the overall academic, administrative, operational, and strategic functioning of the Hotel Management Department. The role requires strong academic leadership, industry orientation, faculty management, student development, and effective coordination with internal departments and external hospitality industry partners.
The incumbent will be expected to ensure high standards of teaching and learning, strengthen industry-academia collaboration, improve student outcomes, and contribute to the growth and development of the department.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Academic Leadership
- Support the Dean in planning and implementing the academic activities of the department.
- Ensure effective delivery of the curriculum as per the academic calendar and prescribed syllabus.
- Monitor syllabus coverage, lesson planning, classroom delivery, practical training, and academic outcomes.
- Review teaching-learning methodologies and promote experiential and industry-oriented learning.
- Monitor students' academic performance and take corrective measures wherever required.
- Ensure effective functioning of laboratories, kitchens, restaurants, housekeeping labs, front office labs, and other practical facilities.
- Encourage innovative teaching practices, projects, workshops, seminars, and guest lectures.
B. Faculty Management
- Coordinate with faculty members regarding academic planning, workload, timetables, attendance, and syllabus completion.
- Monitor faculty performance and classroom effectiveness.
- Conduct regular faculty meetings and review academic progress.
- Mentor and support faculty members in improving teaching and professional capabilities.
- Identify faculty development requirements and coordinate relevant FDPs, training, and industry exposure.
- Ensure discipline, professionalism, and compliance with institutional policies.
C. Student Development
- Monitor student discipline, attendance, academic performance, and overall development.
- Address student concerns and grievances in coordination with the Dean and relevant departments.
- Promote participation in competitions, conferences, workshops, industry events, and extracurricular activities.
- Ensure students receive adequate practical exposure and opportunities for professional development.
- Strengthen mentoring and counselling mechanisms within the department.
D. Industry Interaction & Placement
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with hotels, resorts, restaurants, airlines, cruise lines, travel companies, and other hospitality organisations.
- Facilitate internships, industrial training, live projects, industry visits, guest lectures, and placement opportunities.
- Invite industry professionals for expert sessions and curriculum enrichment.
- Support the Training & Placement Department in achieving strong placement outcomes for Hotel Management students.
- Develop opportunities for students to gain international and national hospitality exposure.
E. Department Administration
- Assist the Dean in preparing departmental plans, budgets, academic schedules, and operational requirements.
- Ensure effective utilisation and maintenance of departmental infrastructure and resources.
- Coordinate with HR, Administration, Examination, Training & Placement, Admissions, and other departments.
- Maintain proper departmental records, reports, minutes of meetings, and documentation.
- Ensure timely submission of reports and information required by the Management.
F. Quality Assurance & Accreditation
- Contribute to institutional quality initiatives and accreditation-related activities.
- Ensure proper maintenance of academic records and departmental documentation.
- Support NAAC/NBA/UGC/university-related requirements, wherever applicable.
- Analyse student feedback and implement improvement measures.
- Promote continuous improvement in academic and administrative processes.
G. Admissions & Department Growth
- Support the Dean and Admissions Team in achieving student enrolment targets.
- Participate in counselling sessions, admission activities, school/college outreach, and promotional initiatives.
- Contribute ideas for new programmes, certifications, specialisations, and industry-oriented courses.
- Support initiatives aimed at strengthening the visibility and reputation of the Hotel Management Department.

- Syllabus completion and academic delivery as per schedule.

- Timely completion of departmental reports and assigned institutional responsibilities.
4. Educational Qualification
- Master's degree in Hotel Management / Hospitality Management / Tourism Management or a relevant discipline.
- Ph.D. in Hotel Management, Hospitality, Tourism, Management, or a related field will be preferred.
- Candidates should have an appropriate academic and/or industry background in hospitality education.
5. Experience
- Preferably 15–20 years of relevant experience in Hotel Management/Hospitality Education and Administration.
- Experience in a senior academic/administrative position such as HOD, Associate Dean, Deputy Dean, Dean, or equivalent will be preferred.
- Strong industry exposure and established hospitality-industry connections will be an advantage.
- Experience in accreditation, academic administration, curriculum planning, and institutional quality processes will be preferred.
