Full job description

We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Bookkeeper to support our growing businesses operating in New Zealand. This is a long-term remote opportunity for someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and experienced with Xero and AU/NZ accounting practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Reconcile bank accounts on a regular basis.
Reconcile rental income and related expenses.
Process and reconcile Xero transactions.
Prepare and lodge GST returns.
Assist with preparing year-end financial statements and supporting documentation.
Manage Inland Revenue (IRD) correspondence where required.
Prepare and process payroll, including leave balances and statutory deductions.
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance.
Generate weekly and monthly financial reports.
Prepare budgeting, forecasting and cashflow reports.
Analyse business performance and identify discrepancies or improvement opportunities.
Reconcile creditor and debtor accounts.
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Maintain the fixed asset register.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Support management with financial reporting and ad-hoc tasks.

Essential Requirements:

Minimum 6 years' bookkeeping experience.
Strong experience using Xero.
Experience with New Zealand and/or Australian accounting and taxation systems.
Experience preparing GST returns.
Payroll processing experience.
· Excellent reconciliation skills.
Strong Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Reliable internet connection and suitable home office.

Preferred:

Experience working with multiple entities or group companies.
Experience in property investment/rental accounting.
Experience preparing management reports and dashboards.
Experience with budgeting and financial forecasting.
Relevant accounting or bookkeeping qualification.

PAYE, KiwiSaver and employer filing (New Zealand).
Superannuation processing (Australia).
Accounts payable and accounts receivable management.
Invoice creation and debtor follow-up.
Cashflow management.
Credit card reconciliations.
Loan reconciliations.
Inter-company reconciliations.
Document management and filing.
Audit preparation.
Liaising with external accountants.
Month-end and year-end close.
KPI reporting.
Profitability analysis.
Cost analysis and expense control.
Financial process improvement and automation.
