Job Description – Pastry Chef

Job Title: Pastry Chef
Department: Food Production – Bakery & Pastry
Reports To: Executive Chef / Sous Chef

Job Summary

The Pastry Chef is responsible for preparing, baking, decorating, and presenting a variety of pastries, cakes, breads, desserts, and other baked goods while maintaining the highest standards of quality, food safety, and hygiene. The role also includes inventory management, recipe standardization, and ensuring consistency in product presentation.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and bake cakes, pastries, breads, cookies, desserts, and other bakery products.
Decorate cakes and desserts according to company standards and customer requirements.
Develop and standardize recipes to maintain consistency in taste and quality.
Ensure all bakery items are prepared fresh and presented attractively.
Monitor stock levels of ingredients and place requisitions when required.
Minimize food waste through proper planning and inventory control.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the pastry kitchen in accordance with food safety standards.
Ensure proper storage of ingredients and finished products.
Operate and maintain bakery equipment safely and efficiently.
Train and guide junior pastry staff and trainees.
Coordinate with the kitchen and service teams to ensure timely production and delivery.
Follow company SOPs, recipes, and portion control standards.
Assist in creating seasonal menus, festive specials, and new dessert offerings.
Perform other duties assigned by the Executive Chef or management.

Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Bakery & Pastry, Culinary Arts, or Hotel Management (preferred).
Relevant experience as a Pastry Chef, Baker, or Pastry Cook.
Knowledge of baking techniques, dessert preparation, and cake decoration.
Familiarity with food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP/FSSAI).
Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
