Full job description

Job Summary

The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies to ensure a safe working environment within the manufacturing facility. The role involves ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, identifying workplace hazards, conducting safety training, investigating incidents, and promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Implement and enforce company safety policies, procedures, and standards.
Ensure compliance with applicable safety laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across the plant.
Identify unsafe conditions and unsafe acts, and ensure timely corrective and preventive actions.
Conduct induction and periodic safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Monitor the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) by employees and contractors.
Investigate accidents, near misses, and incidents, and prepare detailed investigation reports with root cause analysis.
Maintain statutory safety records, registers, and documentation.
Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, including mock drills for fire, evacuation, and other emergencies.
Ensure fire protection systems, firefighting equipment, and emergency response equipment are inspected and maintained.
Coordinate with government authorities during inspections and ensure statutory compliance.
Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with company safety requirements.
Conduct toolbox talks and safety awareness campaigns regularly.
Recommend improvements to enhance workplace safety and reduce occupational hazards.
Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports to management.

Qualifications

Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, or a related discipline.
Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety recognized by the appropriate authority.
Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and manufacturing safety standards.

Experience

2–5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in a manufacturing, engineering, steel, or industrial environment.
Experience in handling contractor safety and statutory compliance is preferred.

Required Skills

Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety practices.
Strong understanding of risk assessment, hazard identification, and incident investigation.
Good communication and training skills.
Ability to prepare safety reports and maintain documentation.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Proficiency in MS Office applications.
Leadership and team coordination skills.
Hindi Language added advantage

Zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI).
Reduction in workplace accidents and near-miss incidents.
Completion of scheduled safety inspections and audits.
100% compliance with statutory safety requirements.
Timely closure of corrective and preventive actions.
Safety training completion rate.
Contractor safety compliance.
Emergency drill effectiveness and readiness.
