Job Description
Job Description – Highway Design Engineer (5 to 10 Years)
1. Key Responsibilities
Highway Geometry Design
-
Prepare horizontal and vertical alignment designs for highways, expressways, and urban roads.
-
Design cross sections, super elevation, widening, and junction layouts.
-
Ensure designs comply with **Indian Roads Congress standards and **Ministry of Road Transport and Highways guidelines.
Detailed Project Reports (DPR)
-
Lead preparation of DPR for highway projects.
-
Conduct feasibility studies, alignment studies, and route selection.
-
Review survey data including topographic survey, traffic data, and geotechnical reports.
Design Coordination
-
Coordinate with bridge, drainage, traffic, pavement, and utility engineers.
-
Ensure proper integration of highway alignment with structures and drainage.
Software-Based Design
-
Use highway design software such as

**AutoCAD Civil 3D

**Bentley OpenRoads Designer

Design Review & Quality Control

Review drawings, reports, and calculations prepared by junior engineers.

Ensure compliance with IRC standards, safety requirements, and project specifications.
Client & Authority Coordination

State PWD departments

Consultants and EPC contractors.
Tender & Bid Support

Assist in technical proposals, bid documents, and design reports.

Provide design inputs during pre-bid and project planning stages.
