Mechanical Design Engineer (Fresher)
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Fresher Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team, specializing in the design and development of industrial filling and packaging machinery. This entry-level role is ideal for a recent graduate with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, CAD software, and a passion for machine design, automation, and manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of senior engineers to contribute to all phases of the product lifecycle, from concept and detailed design to testing and final implementation.
- Key Roles and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Fresher Mechanical Design Engineer will involve supporting the engineering team in various design and documentation tasks:
1. Design and Drafting Support
- 3D Modeling and 2D Drafting: Create and modify detailed 3D models and 2D engineering drawings of machine components, sub-assemblies, and complete machine layouts using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
- Component Selection: Assist in the selection of standard mechanical components such as motors, gears, bearings, pneumatics, and fasteners, ensuring they meet design specifications and industry standards.
- Design Documentation: Maintain and update the engineering documentation library, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), assembly instructions, and technical specifications for manufacturing.
2. Analysis and Optimization
- Basic Calculations: Perform fundamental engineering calculations (e.g., stress, strain, tolerance, material strength) to validate design integrity and functionality.
- Tolerance Stacks: Conduct tolerance analysis to ensure proper fit and function between mating parts, focusing on designs for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA).
- Prototyping Assistance: Support the engineering team during the prototyping and initial build phase, observing and reporting on machine performance and identifying areas for design improvement.
3. Manufacturing and Quality Liaison
- Supplier Interaction: Work with procurement and external suppliers to review component specifications and ensure timely delivery of parts according to design requirements.
- Shop Floor Support: Act as a technical resource for the production and assembly teams, addressing design-related queries and providing clarification on engineering drawings.
- Quality Checks: Participate in the inspection and testing of finished components and assemblies to confirm they adhere to the design specifications and quality standards.
4. Continuous Improvement and Learning
- Standards Compliance: Learn and adhere to industry-specific safety, hygiene, and performance standards relevant to food/beverage and pharmaceutical packaging equipment (e.g., FDA, GMP).
- Problem-Solving: Assist senior engineers in investigating and resolving mechanical failures, performance issues, and root cause analysis during testing or field deployment.
- Documentation: Prepare technical reports, design review presentations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
- No prior full-time industry experience required (0-1 year of experience is acceptable, including relevant internships or academic projects).
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in at least one major 3D CAD software (e.g., Onshape, SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA).
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.
- Solid knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including statics, dynamics, material science, and machine design.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and various surface treatments.
Soft Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take direction from senior staff.
- Proactive attitude and a strong desire to learn and take ownership of tasks.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in the specialized field of automated machinery design. Do you want to explore the specific technical challenges unique to filling and packaging equipment, such as high-speed mechanics or hygienic design?
