Position: Librarian
Department: Library & Learning Resource Centre
Board: CBSE
Reporting To: Principal / Academic Coordinator
Employment Type: Full-Time

Purpose of the Role

To manage and develop the school library as a dynamic learning resource centre that supports the academic, intellectual, and personal growth of students and staff. The Librarian shall foster reading habits, information literacy, research skills, and the effective use of print and digital resources in alignment with CBSE guidelines.

Key ResponsibilitiesLibrary Management

Organize, maintain, and manage the school library and reading resources.
Classify, catalogue, and accession books, journals, periodicals, and digital resources.
Ensure proper shelving, stock verification, and inventory management of library materials.
Maintain an updated library database and circulation records.
Recommend procurement of books, magazines, newspapers, and digital learning resources.
Ensure proper upkeep, safety, and accessibility of library facilities.

Academic Support

Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum delivery through library resources.
Conduct library orientation sessions for students and staff.
Assist students in locating and utilizing resources for projects, assignments, and research activities.
Promote information literacy, digital literacy, and research skills.
Support reading programs, book reviews, literary activities, and reading challenges.

Reading Promotion

Foster a culture of reading and lifelong learning among students.
Organize book fairs, author interactions, reading weeks, storytelling sessions, and literary events.
Display thematic collections and create engaging reading corners.
Encourage independent reading habits across all grade levels.

Digital Resource Management

Manage e-books, online databases, educational portals, and digital learning resources.
Support students and teachers in accessing digital content effectively.
Maintain digital cataloguing and library automation systems.
Ensure ethical use of information and adherence to copyright regulations.

Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain library records, accession registers, issue/return records, and annual reports.
Prepare library budgets and procurement proposals.
Conduct periodic stock verification and submit reports to the school administration.
Participate in school meetings, training programs, and academic initiatives.
Ensure compliance with CBSE norms and school policies.

QualificationEssential

Bachelor's Degree in Library Science (B.Lib.Sc.) or Library & Information Science.
Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a Librarian, preferably in a CBSE or reputed school.
Proficiency in library management systems and digital cataloguing.

Preferred

Master's Degree in Library Science (M.Lib.Sc.).
Knowledge of library automation software.
Experience in managing digital libraries and educational technology resources.
Familiarity with CBSE library guidelines and school accreditation requirements.

Skills Required

Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Passion for reading promotion and student engagement.
Knowledge of library classification and cataloguing systems.
Proficiency in MS Office and library management software.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and parents.
