Job Summary

The Librarian is responsible for managing the library's resources, providing information services to students, faculty, and staff, promoting reading habits, and ensuring efficient library operations through both physical and digital resources.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day operations of the library.
Organize, classify, catalog, and maintain books, journals, magazines, and digital resources.
Issue, receive, renew, and reserve library materials.
Maintain accurate library records and circulation data.
Assist students and staff in locating books and research materials.
Maintain an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and library management software.
Ensure proper shelving and preservation of library resources.
Conduct stock verification and annual library audits.
Recommend and procure new books, journals, and digital resources.
Promote reading habits through book fairs, reading clubs, storytelling sessions, author talks, and library orientation programs.
Guide users in accessing e-books, e-journals, databases, and online learning resources.
Maintain discipline and a conducive learning environment within the library.
Coordinate with faculty to support curriculum and research requirements.
Prepare periodic reports on library usage, acquisitions, and inventory.
Ensure compliance with institutional policies and library standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in any discipline.
Bachelor's Degree in Library & Information Science (B.Lib.I.Sc.) or Master's Degree in Library & Information Science (M.Lib.I.Sc.).
Knowledge of library classification systems such as DDC and Colon Classification.
Familiarity with library automation software such as KOHA.

Skills & Competencies

Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of cataloguing and classification techniques.
Computer proficiency, including MS Office and library management systems.
Ability to guide users in information retrieval.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Customer service orientation.
Time management and multitasking skills.

Preferred Experience

1–5 years of experience in a school, college, university, or institutional library.
Experience with digital libraries, e-resources, and library automation systems is preferred.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Accuracy of cataloguing and record maintenance.
Timely issue and return of library materials.
Library user satisfaction.
Growth in library membership and book circulation.
Successful organization of reading promotion activities.
Completion of stock verification and inventory management on schedule.

Working Conditions

Full-time position.
Standard institutional working hours.
May be required to support school/college events and academic activities.
