About this Role

We are seeking a skilled Ab Initio Data Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Unix and Teradata, along with basic working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The role focuses on designing, developing, optimising and supporting ETL solutions in large-scale data processing environments, with accountability for performance, stability and production support.

What you’ll do

Design, develop and maintain ETL workflows using Ab Initio components including GDE, EME and the Co>Operating System
Build, optimise and support data ingestion, transformation and extraction pipelines for enterprise data platforms
Write and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts for automation, scheduling and monitoring activities
Develop, optimise and tune SQL queries and data models within Teradata environments
Perform performance tuning and troubleshooting for ETL jobs and database queries
Collaborate with operations, infrastructure and business teams to resolve production issues and deliver enhancements
Follow best practices related to data quality, security, governance and compliance
Provide support during releases, incident resolution and root cause analysis
Maintain clear technical documentation covering designs, workflows and operational procedures

Who you are

You have strong hands-on experience in Ab Initio ETL development
You demonstrate good proficiency in Unix/Linux commands and shell scripting
You bring solid experience in Teradata SQL, performance tuning and utilities
You understand data warehousing concepts and ETL best practices
You have experience working in production support environments with incident management
You have basic working knowledge of GCP services such as Google Cloud Storage, BigQuery and Compute Engine
Exposure to cloud migration or hybrid data platforms is an advantage
Familiarity with scheduling tools (for example Autosys or Control‑M) and Agile/Scrum methodologies is preferred
You have 4–8 years of relevant experience, aligned to a Deputy Manager band role
