Position - Assistant Editor/Senior Features Writer

A dynamic dual role combining hands-on feature writing, editorial planning, and cross-functional coordination — ensuring the magazine consistently delivers insightful, industry-relevant content for the salon, spa, and professional beauty business community across print and digital platforms.

Role at a Glance

Responsible for developing high-quality editorial content for StyleSpeak’s print and digital platforms while managing the content & features workflow of the magazine.

Collaborates With: Design Team, Digital, Marketing, Sales & Advertiser Relations, Freelancers and Industry Experts

Platforms Covered: Print Magazine, Website & Web Articles, Newsletters, Social Media Channels

Editorial Content Development

The role demands generating story ideas aligned with the monthly editorial calendar and industry trends. The writer is expected to produce high-quality B2B feature articles, interviews, profiles, case studies, and trend reports for both the magazine and website.

Long-Form Features: In-depth articles for the print magazine covering industry trends, brand stories, and salon business insights.

Digital Editorial Pieces: Shorter, web-optimized content for StyleSpeak's digital platforms and social channels.

Voice Credibility: All content must maintain StyleSpeak's editorial tone, industry relevance, and factual accuracy.

Editing & Editorial Quality Control

The role requires rigorous editing, proofreading, and factchecking of all editorial content published across the magazine, website, and digital platforms. Accuracy, clarity, tone consistency, and adherence to editorial standards are non-negotiable. Close collaboration with the Chief Editor is essential for shaping feature direction, cover stories, and key editorial themes each month.

Edit & Proofread: All magazines and digital content before publication.

Fact-Check: Verify accuracy of claims, data, and industry references.

Tone Consistency: Uphold StyleSpeak's editorial voice across all formats.

Editorial Strategy & Content Planning

Monthly Content Strategy: Assist in building the feature pipeline for both the magazine and website each month.

New Editorial IPs: Contribute to developing content series, special initiatives, and new editorial formats.

Calendar Management: Maintain and track the editorial calendar, ensuring timely completion of all assigned stories.

Cross-Team Collaboration

Design Team: Coordinate on magazine layouts, visual storytelling, infographics, and page structures for each issue.

Digital & Marketing: Adapt editorial content for web publishing, newsletters, and social media distribution.

SEO Team: Liaise to ensure all content is optimized for discoverability and search ranking.

Stakeholder & Contributor Management

The role involves building and maintaining a robust network within the professional beauty and salon industry ecosystem. This includes liaising with freelance writers, industry experts, salon leaders, PR agencies, and creative professionals to source stories and expert insights.

Brief to Manage Freelancers: Ensure contributors meet deadlines and adhere to StyleSpeak's editorial standards.

Industry Relationship Building: Cultivate long-term relationships with salon professionals, brand founders, and beauty experts.

Digital, Social & Event Coverage

Digital & Social Integration: Adapt editorial content for website articles and social posts; ensure consistent promotion across digital platforms; track content performance and audience engagement.

Event Coverage & Industry Engagement: Attend trade shows, brand launches, and seminars; produce event coverage stories and interviews; strengthen StyleSpeak's visibility in the professional beauty community.

Required Experience & Skills

1. Editorial Experience: 3–4 years in journalism, magazine publishing, or editorial roles with proven feature writing and editing ability with some supervisory role of managing writers & freelancers.

2. Print & Digital Fluency: Experience in both print and digital editorial environments, including SEO content principles and digital publishing workflows.

3. Storytelling & Research: Excellent interviewing, research, and storytelling skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.

4. Industry Awareness: Strong awareness of beauty, wellness, lifestyle, or hospitality sectors preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience should be across print & digital content preferably with trade publications or B2B media

Exposure to professional beauty, salon, spa, or wellness industry coverage

Existing network of industry experts, brand founders, and salon professionals

Job Type: Full-time
