Job Description – Senior Azure API Management (APIM) Engineer

Experience: 8+ Years

Employment Type: Full-Time

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Azure API Management (APIM) Engineer with strong expertise in Azure API Management, .NET/C#, and API platform engineering. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing enterprise API platforms on Azure, while driving API migrations from platforms such as Apigee, Kong, or MuleSoft to Azure APIM.

Key Responsibilities

Design, configure, and manage Azure API Management (APIM) environments.
Implement API policies including authentication, authorization, rate limiting, caching, request/response transformations, and traffic management.
Configure Azure APIM with Azure AD, OAuth2/OIDC, JWT authentication, subscription keys, mTLS, and Azure Key Vault.
Design API products, versioning, revisions, developer portals, and API lifecycle management.
Lead API migration projects from Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, or similar API management platforms to Azure APIM.
Develop reusable APIM policies and automate API deployments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Build and maintain RESTful APIs using C#/.NET.
Implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
Monitor API performance and reliability using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and related observability tools.
Collaborate with architects, developers, security teams, and business stakeholders to deliver secure and scalable API solutions.
Ensure API governance, security, and best practices across enterprise environments.

Required Skills

8+ years of experience in API engineering or platform development.
5+ years of hands-on experience with the Azure Platform.
3+ years of experience managing Azure API Management (APIM) in enterprise environments.
Strong development experience with C#/.NET and RESTful API development.
Hands-on experience with Azure API Management Policies.
Strong understanding of OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT Authentication, Subscription Keys, and mTLS.
Experience migrating APIs from Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, or other API management platforms to Azure APIM.
Experience with OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, Git workflows, and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (ARM Templates, Bicep, or Terraform).
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Good to Have

Experience with APIOps practices.
Knowledge of Azure Key Vault, Private Link, Azure Front Door, WAF, and CDN.
Experience with AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service), ingress controllers, and service mesh.
Experience customizing Azure APIM Developer Portal.
Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, or Datadog.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Microsoft Azure certifications are preferred.
Prior experience with Google Apigee administration or development is an added advantage.
