Full job description

We are a progressive accounting firm in Mohali looking for an experienced Senior Tax Accountant with strong knowledge of Australian taxation and accounting practices.

The successful candidate will work closely with Australian clients, client managers, and partners to prepare and review accounting and taxation work. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail, confidence in dealing with clients, and strong spoken and written English communication skills.

The ideal candidate should have at least 4 years of experience in Australian public practice accounting and be comfortable working with Australian tax legislation, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare Australian Tax Returns for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships, and other entities.
Prepare and review BAS, IAS and other Activity Statements in accordance with Australian taxation requirements.
Prepare Financial Statements for Australian clients.
Handle Australian tax compliance and ensure work is completed accurately and within deadlines.
Apply knowledge of Australian tax legislation, GST, PAYG, deductions, depreciation, capital gains and other relevant taxation matters.
Communicate directly with Australian Client Managers via phone, email and online meetings.
Provide monthly and quarterly bookkeeping support using Xero.
Work with accounting software including Xero and MYOB.
Assist with SMSF accounting and taxation work where required. Class/BGL and SMSF experience will be highly regarded.
Maintain accurate working papers and documentation in accordance with Australian accounting and tax practice requirements.
Meet internal deadlines and manage multiple client jobs effectively.
Participate in internal and external training to remain up to date with changes in Australian taxation and accounting.
Support team members and contribute to a professional and collaborative working environment.
Assist with other accounting, taxation and administrative tasks as required.

Essential Skills & Experience

Minimum 4 years of experience in Australian public practice accounting.
Strong practical knowledge of Australian taxation and accounting.
Experience preparing Australian Tax Returns, BAS/IAS, Activity Statements and Financial Statements.
Good understanding of Australian tax compliance requirements and legislation.
Experience working with Xero and MYOB.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve accounting/tax issues.
Excellent spoken English with clear pronunciation and confidence in communicating with Client Managers.
Strong interpersonal and client communication skills.
Ability to independently manage client work from start to completion.
Strong time management skills and ability to prioritise work and meet strict Australian tax deadlines.
Self-motivated, responsible and willing to take ownership of assigned work.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related field.
CA/CPA qualification, pursuing CA/CPA, or willingness to undertake CA/CPA will be preferred.

Desirable Experience

The following will be highly regarded:

Australian SMSF accounting and taxation experience.
Experience with Class Super or BGL.
Experience dealing directly with Australian clients.
Experience reviewing work prepared by junior accountants.
Knowledge of Australian tax and accounting software.
